businesses can get a tax break for hiring felons now, or people can pay to keep them incarcerated. One way or another, we pay....

I vote for option #2.

that’s fine. However, with overcrowding and such, more and more inmates are being set free early, and if no one will hire them, they won’t have many options, and criminal or not, that’s not a good position to be in.

Texas already has a tax break for businesses that hire felons, and some businesses do go out of their way to hire them for that reason. I worked at such a place (was the only truck driver) and it worked out pretty well for the business and the employees. True scumbags won’t work out at any place of business but the employees I ran across at work weren’t any different than anyone else, and some were managers.

I tend to think that once a person has served their time, their debt is PAID.
