Hotel cancels Tea Party event after learning that anti-Islam activist was due to be a speaker

A hotel in Texas cancelled a Tea Party event that was going to be held in their conference room because it didn't approve of the group's keynote speaker. Pamela Geller, a political activist and blogger, was schedule to headline the event and caused hotel representatives to deny the group use of their space.

Officially, the Hyatt Place Houston Sugar Land hotel cancelled the event citing 'changing security needs' after they learned that Ms Geller would be speaking.

This is not the first time that Ms Geller has ruffled feathers: the staunch conservative has written extensively against Islam and regularly attacks the religion because she deems it 'the radical most radical and extreme ideology on the face of the earth'.

'I'm not bashing Muslims. I'm not bashing people. I love people, It's why I do what I do,' Ms Geller said.

In spite of that, the event was forced to move to the Sugar Land Community Center, where it was held Tuesday night

'I think it's reprehensible, the restriction of free speech, because that's what we're talking about,' Ms Geller said.

While event attendees were boycotting the Hyatt, a few dozen residents of Sugar Land, Texas, which is right outside of Houston, boycotted the event, calling it 'hate speech'.

It might help if so called conservatives quit doing it.

It is a public accommodation. It falls within the federal civil rights laws.

I’m missing how she is being discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion or country of national origin.

The speaker has a pro-Christian world view and was going to speak on the topic of Islam. Seems to me the hotel cancelled the event only because of the religious views of the speaker and attendees.

No one is going to challenge the leftists if there is no one getting their back. It is easy to expect people to be heros. Harder to put up with the job losses, personal attacks on self and family and loss of community without anything back from other conservatives.

Since this event took place in Texas, I am sending out a ping to my Texas Freeper list.

I am a supporter of Pamela Geller's efforts in bringing the truth to those who will listen and read her documented research. Anyone with a brain can clearly see that we have Islamic Terrorists coming into our country with goals to kill Americans.

I certainly will never stay at a Hyatt hotel again!

Most Hyatt’s are franchise operations and the company may not have been aware of this situation. I would suggest contacting them with a complain and see how they respond. I suspect, this may be a situation with the local operator or an employee who is unaware of the law or the business consequences of the action taken.

So, lessee, whom does the Hyatt make more money from? Muslim terrorists who want to kill Americans, or Tea Partiers who have money and want to spend it in America on American events held at American businesses??

There’s a quick way to get the Hyatt’s attention - vote with your wallet. Don’t stay at the Hyatt hotels anymore (or any of their spinoffs) and tell the Hyatt corporate management why they have more empty rooms than they used to.

I heard Michael Berry interview Pamela on his radio program here in Houston but I was at work and did not hear him talk about the Hyatt problem.

He comes on opposite Hannity and I've stopped listening to Hannity and now listen to Michael Berry.

Berry has his 'Berry Brigade' that needs to send some attention Hyatt's way.

Freepers would love Michael Berry.

“They are too busy tearing down Herman to realize that they may shortly be called the texmexislamic state.”

And dissin on an entire state board is not a good way to garner support for Cain either. Rather, take the high road, realizing that such a broad brush stroke is more often than not, a sign of a narrow mind...

The irony IS strong here.

I agree with you that she should have never been refused the right to speak to the group. all I was saying is that the Hotel is probably running scared.

I don’t like Hyatt , so I wouldn’t be giving them any business anyway.

I will never stay in a Hyatt again anyway.

The one in DC is like public housing for 300 per day.

Until Islamism is identified officially as the enemy, there is nothing the hotels can do.

Then Pamela should bring Ann Barnhardt along.

LOL...no kidding. She uses bacon strips as bookmarks for her copy of the Koran...

I guess we need to cancel the Hyatt as a place to stay in Texas.

I wonder if they would have cancelled if (Not so)Reverand Wright had been going to speak against America. Hmmmm?

True, and what’s the likelihood of that. Everyone is busy trying to be PC to the Islamofascist.
