(Reuters) - The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) declined comment on Wednesday on a call by U.S. senators to ban tobacco, including smokeless tobacco, from the game.
With the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers set to start on Wednesday, a spokesman for the players' group said the question of tobacco was included in talks over a new players' contract.
"Given that the issue is the subject of collective bargaining and those negotiations are currently under way, the MLBPA believes it would be inappropriate to comment at this time," a spokesman said.

I’m surprised there hasn’t already been a “no nicotine on team time” policy. But the health nuts, to be consistent, ought to extend that to caffeine as well. No coffee or tea!
Nellie Fox spits on your face from the grave.
I never chewed. I reserve my right as an adult to make a choice.
**Four Democratic senators — ...**
How about a Letter, BANNING Democrap Senators from Sticking their Noses where it does NOT BELONG???
Baseballs could hurt people.
If Durby and Co. ban tobacco in MLB, then Dan Uggla’s batting average may fall even lower. The Braves cannot afford such nonsense.
Hey, body armor and helmets for everyone on the team, not just the catcher. And netting over the stands.
If libs got their way. They would stop keeping score of games. Don’t want any losers to remind them of their selves.
I notice none of the Senators are from tobacco growing States.
“I notice none of the Senators are from tobacco growing States.”
Of course not; the senators from the tobacco-growing states should push to outlaw sodomy, to put these jackasses on the defensive.
I don’t care what they chew or don’t chew but I find the constant spitting disgusting. I have noticed a marked increase in all people spitting, even little kids. If your saliva is that repulsive, maybe you ought to think about oral hygiene.
If they did not spit Red Man, they would be vomiting instead. Which do you prefer.
Baseball should send a letter back to these Senators and tell them the players will quit the tobacco when the Senators quit their lobbiests.
How about using a spittoon or a paper cup.
A Dunkin Donuts coffee cup is the best for that.
