If Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Herman Cain or any of the other presidential challengers were to embark on a three-day bus trip like the one now underway by President Obama, it would cost their campaigns tens of thousands of dollars. Perhaps more.
They would have to pay a variety of expenses, including:
air travel to their first destination
leasing of one or more buses appropriate to the journey
rental for halls or meeting rooms for their candidates' appearances
the cost of lodging and meals for their candidate and staff
But not the Obama campaign. The White House declared that Mr. Obama's three-day trip through North Carolina and Virginia are official events and not campaign appearances, even though the two states are known to be political objectives of his re-election bid.
So Mr. Obama's expenses are borne by taxpayers, including:
the pro-rated costs of his flights aboard Marine One and Air Force One that brought him to his first stop yesterday in Asheville, NC
the two buses used by him and his staff, owned and operated by the United States Secret Service
costs associated with setting up speech sites including microphones, speakers, amplifiers, teleprompters and TV lights
lodging and meals for the president and his political staff
And though the White House has said the trip is not political, Mr. Obama has repeatedly used his speeches to take Republicans to task for opposing the provisions of his jobs bill.
[snip]
White House has refused repeated requests from CBS News to disclose its calculations of how much the Obama campaign or DNC must reimburse the government for Mr. Obama's political travel expenses.

How many airports did Air Force 1 land and take off from during the North Carolina - Virginia Jobs Bill Campaign Tour?
Must be nice. Obama is lovin’ it. He’s campaigned since day one in Office and taken all his vacations on our Federal dime. Like I say......must be nice.
The way I look at it he has cost us trillions!
“...three-day bus trip like the one now underway by President Obama, it would cost their campaigns tens of thousands of dollars.”
Under estimated by a factor of at least 10 times. This motorcade is costing HUNDREDS of thousands...a day.
Obama wants to destroy this country, but before doing so, he’s going to milk every perk and benefit from the taxpayers he can get. The man is a pig, and I hope the Good Lord is writing all this down.
As long as we are the richest country in the world and 0bama is doing a fine job of making sure that we stay that way, who cares?
Brazen ‘In your face’ profligacy.
He and the Mrs. are bankrupting America with their junkets at taxpayers expense.
Worse than King George - at least we got to drink tea!!!!!
The obamas wrote the book on freeloading.
Let Soros and the Unions pay his way, like in 2008.
Yeah, it`s not a campaign tour
just like it`s not a Canadian bus.
No one has addressed the most amazing part of this story!
This is by .. CBS NEWS!! Ta Da
Obama doesn’t take a dump for $thousands. Try $millions, and when he starts giving goodies away, $billions.
And running out of pages.
Why are none of the media showing the virtually empty arenas where the turd is speaking? The only “crowd” I saw at any of the events was the one at Emporia Virginia. Last time I wondered off 95 looking for gas I ended up in Emporia and thought I had been launched into Kenya. Perhaps that is the only part of his “base” still relatively with him.
Meanwhile, memo to the GOP, stop those stupid circular firing squads called debates. Those debates are making this guy look good by comparison. I wish someone would take the turd on in a primary fight just to get him on a stage without a teleprompter.
Barry the Imposter has gone a long way past the reparations of 40 acres & a mule!!!!
There were 2 or 3 helicopters (ncluding Marine One) at the Lake Country Airport in Clarksville, VA, when he visited the high school in Skipwith. Not sure if he traveled by Marine One or took the bus to his next stop in Emporia, VA. What a costly useless venture.
