Gaddafi and his family have been on the run since Nato and rebel forces started closing the net on Tripoli in mid-August. The reports of Gaddafi's capture came on the same day that revolutionary forces said that they had taken control of Sirte - the leader's home town. Initial reports from CNN and the revolutionary council said Gaddafi was in custody, while Al Jazeera reported that a ‘big fish’ had been caught but did not provide a name. Sky News reported that Gaddafi had been wounded in both legs prior to his capture. A military official told Reuters via telephone: 'He's captured. He's wounded in both legs ... He's been taken away by ambulance.

Reuters) - Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi died of wounds suffered in his capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, a senior NTC military official said.
National Transitional Council official Abdel Majid Mlegta told Reuters earlier that Gaddafi was captured and wounded in both legs at dawn on Thursday as he tried to flee in a convoy which NATO warplanes attacked.
“He was also hit in his head,” the official said. “There was a lot of firing against his group and he died.”
There was no independent confirmation of his remarks.

Gadaffi is dead according to the Daily Mail, and the traditional capture / ransom scenario has not been followed, so the whole Bedou tribe is about to rise in a war which will last for generations.

Well, it looks as if the end that some of have been following fairly closely has finally come.
Now that he is gone as appears likely the rush will intensify to find the missing $billions. A few weeks ago there were reports he had asked banks in England and NY to transfer his funds/gold to Venezuela. Anyone know if this happened?
