AN 84-YEAR-OLD ex-university official savagely attacked by four young punks during a walk in Wissahickon Valley Park earlier this week theorizes that the beating he endured was a cruel game of "get the old geezer."
Jim Shea, a former vice president of university relations for Temple, from 1968 to 1983, walks up to five miles on Forbidden Drive, in Fairmount Park, three times a week, but that type of stamina wasn't enough to stave off the lowlifes who not only beat him bloody, but dealt a blow to one of the things he holds most dear - his pride.
Shea was near the Valley Green Inn, on Forbidden Drive, in the Wissahickon Valley Park, about 1:15 p.m. Monday when he was hit from behind.
"I felt a real something to the head, a real blow to the head from behind," he said. "It knocked me to the ground; that was the biggie."
Shea said the four assailants continued to beat him for minutes while he was on the ground. He said they were black, appeared to be between 16 and 20, and three of them were wearing La Salle sweatshirts.
Police and Shea said that at least one of the attackers used a rock to hit him, causing deep cuts above his eyes. They all kicked and punched him while he was on the ground, conscious the entire time.
"There was only one I really saw well because he came back to kick me," Shea said. "The others spent a great deal of the time laughing."

An even better game would have been ‘old geezer with a gun’
Walking on Forbidden Drive without a gun?
Maybe he should have thought about that.
I guess there is a reason why the call it that....ya think?
Cowardly lowlife trash - I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
In a healthy society, elderly people are treated with respect, even reverence. This kind of attack shows how far our culture has devolved. And I’m sure there are plenty of liberals who will defend the savages who beat Mr. Shea. A part of their thinking, though they aren’t quite to the point of admitting it publically, will be that an 84-year-old man is a “useless mouth,” a person of no value who will probably die soon anyway.
Only if said old geezer gets to the range to practice enough to confidently blow .45 cal holes through said lowlifes. Exsanguinated puke punks tell no tales.
Concealed Carry.
Obama´s Death Panels.
Why couldn’t they have been wearing Temple U., or Drexel shirts? Then it would’ve been more convincing!!!!! How dare those thugs impugn the Christian Brothers!

My family, my friends, my employees and EVERYONE I know are not even remotely part of THAT culture.
Conquest brings joy to the victors. An excess of joy causes occasional attacks upon the vanquished people-Spartans and their Helots comes to mind. We must become used to these occasional excesses and learn techniques to persuade the conquerors not to assault us. There are techniques one can learn in order to avoid a severe beating; such as averting the eyes, keeping the hands at one’s sides, shuffling the feet, frequent use of the term “master.”
Yea and as the economy worsens and as we draw nearer to the election there will be more and more of this, so much so that the MSM will stop reporting on it.
I'm sure the PR statement is already written stating there is no evidence of racism in the attack, and if there was it was because he taunted the disadvantaged youth by walking through their hood.
So this was yet another defenseless white person attacked by multiple racist black criminals for no reason other than race hatred, right?
Just don’t call it a Hate Crime.
Light , low recoil, and stings like a biatch, or worse.
.380 auto with lazer kit...Octogenarians, GET YOURS TODAY:
Some people are gonna need killing.
The 84 year old man was hit totally by surprise from behind in a most cowardly way.
Wondering how a gun would have prevented such a cowardly surprise attack from behind on a person of such advanced years, and who would have the gun today?
I’m all for concealed carry, but I’m also for being alert to ones surroundings when outside one’s abode.
Being alert is at least half the battle.
“Just singin’ in the rain...”
Another hate crime the DOJ won’t respond to...
Agreed. And let me say, the Kel-Tec P3AT is their friend, too.
Load either of these fine weapons with some Cor-Bon Critical Defense, and with some divine providence, a decent amount of situational awareness, and good aim, these thugs will no longer be a problem for society.
It’s coming, monkeys. Bet on it. And you’re not going to like it.
Yep, nice little package. I have larger carry 9’s, but they were still to big to carry comfortably daily. This one fit the bill.
Now, if I could figure out how to carry the AR daily...
Obama’s America...
“Empowerment in the Age of Obama”
Cute weapon but you wouldn’t need a laser at that range. I carry one of two 9mm personally. But after the first shot those ghetto scumbags would run.
“He said they were black, appeared to be between 16 and 20, and three of them were wearing La Salle sweatshirts”.
So what else is new??? Real brave guys!
I'm considering attending a convention at the downtown Marriott in January and wondering if I'm likely to run into this sort of thing if I try to walk to nearby tourist sites. Or is this mainly a warm-weather phenomenon?
I think there's a word missing there.
I was just looking at one of those LCPs the other day.
The laser is a nice touch.
Problem with that is, he was operating in "condition white" (oblivious of surroundings). His first indication of attack was when he was hit.
When armed, you need to operate in "condition yellow" (relaxed alertness), especially when in "Indian Country", otherwise being armed is useless. You need to maintain awareness of potential threats in all directions.
A “Geezer” I know works for the parking garages in my town getting the cash bags. Two punks on Roller Blades tried to take a bag from him. He knocked one out with one punch and the other fled. He was a star lineman for our High School football team in his day.
...and one hell of a bartender.....still!

The modern version of a Race Riot
To recipients of government funding, people on Social Security are competitors for government funds. Weak and easily killed competitors.
Beat up whitey, but only at a rate of occurrence that won’t cause whitey to fight back.
If you have 80 ear old vision, you need a lazer.I am glad your vision is good but call me when you are an octogenarian.
Would they run? Not if he shot all three of them. That takes about 2 seconds.
PA has concealed carry, but I wonder how hard it is to get a license in Philly. Not totally sure about this, but aren't the licenses handled by local law enforcement? The administration of Philly is extremely anti-gun.
Public canings and a month in the pillory would be in order. So would prison time for assault
The action on the Ruger might be a little tough for an 84 year old especially if he has any arthritus in his hands. The Bersa 380 for about the same price is a tad larger so your hand fits around it a little more securely and it has a safety and a decocker. Actions fairly smooth also. Does not have a laser though one can be added.
Nice!I love small caliber pistols,,,I shoot them at steel silouettes at 100 yards, lot of fun.
Bang,,,,,,,,1,,2,........Patink! If you can aim well at that distance, its no problem at 5 to 20 feet when you are down on the pavement.
Too bad the victim was not armed! The day is coming when every city will be like Dodge. We are not too far off in some places today.
Great tagline - lol!
Wait until the EBT, ATM and gas cards are not being honored.
