The 2011 Zombie Safe House Competition has begun.
When the zombie apocalypse happens, where will you live?
See some of this year's new ideas for how to survive. Humans can go to the water, underground, above ground, or just fight back.
We've gathered some of our favorite proposals here.
Voting for the best safe house ends today.

... and I feel fine.
Zer0 should let his hair grow back again.
I am going to commandeer an abandoned water tower...Strategic position. And MAN!, I got room for several floors to the place when I do the interior..lol
It just looks like a heck of a lot of work with little payoff:
The way I figure, I lay low for a while until that cute young thing down the road turns into a zombie, then she chases me around for a while until I let her catch me and start munching on my body parts, and then I get to come back to life and hunt down any other surviving cuties and take my turn.
I really don’t see much of a downside.
Best place to be is wherever my 10 year old grandson happens to be. He is not only an expert on all things ZOMBIE related, he has also learned a fair amount of real survival skills from his grandpa. We joke all the time that he can be in charge after the zombie apocalypse...
My choice is Helm's Deep!
“The end-of-worlders say that God is going to respect time zones, and make the end of the world a rolling thing, so if we see it happening in Europe, we’ll have some time to prepare.
That is EXCELLENT of GOD! Just WOW!
I don’t know, Lothlorien could also be a good location.
I don’t think I’d 100% count on that speculation. Live as though you will have no time to prepare.
I have seen pics of real some castles that might work if they weren’t in Euroland... put them in rural Alaska or Montana and it’d be worth a mint. heh
First ones out.
Best place to be when there are zombies is a wide open flat frozen tundra with nothing around for a hundred miles. Build a fort on top of a tower and watch for funny walking undead stumbling around with extremities frozen solid.
Yeah. Great field of fire, and half the year, the zombies freeze solid!
Hornburg... that’s Laz’s hangout. I’ll stick to Helm’s Deep. heh
I’m hiding in a ditch. heh.
But then what if we get fast zombies. Don’t tell anybody this, but the plan is commandeer a barge, cut loose and hook up 20 yachts to it and haul’em out to deep water.
This is of course after you raided the liquor stores and brought lots of lead. Zombies really only live about three months before they can do any more ravaging. Just wait ‘em out.
I guess a guy could show the box to his buddies, "hey, check this out".
Headshots recommended for Zombie- kill. Ammo said to work fine against Non-Zombie targets also.
And no, I 'aint gonna put in a link to zombietime.com.
Those folks are self destructing anyway. Now if we could just quarantine the place in the meantime...
I forgot the world was ending tomorrow.the angels don’t even know...So the false prophet we were warned about will give a new date after tomorrow but there were some earthquakes so he thinks he is right...again
I would not recommend going to a shopping center. That never works out well.
Or a mall. Yeah, you get a few months to contemplate exististialism, but you still have to figure out how to leave.
One thing we need to discuss is IDing the intial breakout. It might appear very differently, in, say, frozen Montana than it does in Miami.
I'm going to his house.
Zombies freeze in an interior Alaskan winter!
Dont tell anybody this, but the plan is commandeer a barge, cut loose and hook up 20 yachts to it and haulem out to deep water.
My plan is similar ,, commandeer a yacht and secure an oil platform..
no such thing as a fast zombi when its 30 below outside. They aren’t smart enough to keep warm. Their limbs freeze solid and hinder their locomotion.
Also, you have got to look at non-zombie people as future zombies. The worst place to be is in a crowd of zombies. The second worst place to be is in a crowd of people. All it takes is one infected person in that crowd to turn into a zombie and every person in that crowd is toast.
So you go where there are little to no people. NO people means no zombies.
Even better than a place with no people is a place with no people that is so inhospitable to life that dumb people can’t survive. No ground cover is a plus. Open water isn’t a bad idea either. But you don’t want to be around other boats. You want to be way far away from all other human beings.
Then wait it out. The zombie virus will run its course in the highly populated warm climates. When they run out of humans to feed on, they will start spreading to the lesser populated cooler regions in search of food. They can’t die, but they do have accidents. They will lose limbs, break bones, etc. They are not smart enough to tend their wounds. So gradually little by little they fall to pieces. Eventually they will all be crippled and unable to hunt human prey.
Humans will make their stand in the frozen tundra when the few zombies that reach them will be too froze and too beat up to pose much of a threat. There we will pick off the half froze zombies at our leisure. Little by little as the years go by, the flow of zombies into the frozen regions will decline from attrition and lack of newly infected zombies. At that point the humans will begin to increase their territory into the regions that are not quite as cold. When summer comes we will retreat back to the frozen tundra. There will be lots of crippled zombies all over the place that will need to be put down.
I missed the end of the world ....who won?
Close the borders? Are you insane???
