MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police say a man who witnessed an elderly woman being robbed and pistol-whipped shot and killed her attacker.

Authorities say the armed robber confronted the woman in the parking lot of a grocery store about 10 p.m. Thursday, took her purse and hit her in the head with his gun. A man who witnessed the robbery chased the suspect and shot him. When police arrived, the witness told officers he had a permit to carry a gun and that he had shot the armed robbery suspect during a confrontation outside a nearby restaurant. He told officers where they could find his handgun. He was detained for questioning.

Police say the robber who was fatally shot was in his 20s. Investigators say they found his gun near where the shooting took place.

it'll be interesting to see how this one plays out...the boy-mayor will probably want the good samaritan charged.

Prayers up for the good Samaritan. In Obamaland, good is evil and evil is good.

I believe the stain and his regime sent a sympathy card to the perp’s family expressing their deep sorrow and condolences. It also contained a picture of the stain bowing.....to no one in particular.....just bowing.

The shooter is toast. You just can’t shoot a robber running away since it is no longer a threat. The guy will do time.

Article is unclear.

When police arrived, the witness told officers he had a permit to carry a gun and that he had shot the armed robbery suspect during a confrontation outside a nearby restaurant.

If he was chasing the guy, and the perp stopped and confronted him while armed, the shooter will have a very good case for self-defense. Especially if other people saw it.

I suspect a good deal will depend where the bullet went in. If the bullet's in the guy's back, he is indeed probably toast. In MN, anyway. He'd be fine in TX.

Not if he can convince the cops that the perp turned the gun in his direction. He might be okay.

Too true. If I were king for a day, he’d get a medal, the keys to the city and a parade. We need to encourage incidents like these. That is a true crime stopper.

we’ll see. these things are not static.

he could have disengaged then re-engaged hostilities.

I hope the good samaritian had a valid permit and isn’t charged. anyone giving an old lady a beating deserves a fatal bullet.

“Not if he can convince the cops that the perp turned the gun in his direction. He might be okay.”

In truth it will come down to the prosecutor, or maybe a jury.

I’m not sure about MN, but here in Ohio that shooter would be at the mercy of the system.

Believer it or not, you have a “duty to retreat”, not chase the guy.

I agree. That is exactly what I was told when I went through the CC classes. You need to be in fear for your life when you elect to use your carry arm.

The perp won’t be pistol-whipping another elderly person, that’s the real positive thing to come out of this situation.

The only guy to kill two robbers by shooting them in the back while they ran away and get away with it was a minister in Big Lake, Alaska. They robbed the donations. The minister was found not guilty by reason of self-defense because the church had been robbed twice before and the minister thought that if he didn’t stop them now, they would be back and the actual “threat” would be in the future. Anyway, sometimes it is very good to have a small town jury.

This is the only way true justice is achieved. Thank God this vermin was killed! Price of Justice? One bullet. No going into the criminal injustice system where he would be appointed (at our expense) a sleazy, morally challenged, criminal defense attorney. No endless appeals (at our expense). No liberal judge to sentence him to 1/100 the time he should have served. No idiotic parole board to let him out early so he could then prey on other innocent people.

With people recently being beaten and robbed by gangs within sight of a Minneapolis police station and the police doing nothing, no wonder citizens in the Twin Cities feel a need to protect themselves.
