Occupy Wall Street Demands Global UN Tax and Worldwide G20 Protest
Investment Watch ^ | October 20th, 2011 | Investment Watch staff

Posted on 10/21/2011 7:50:21 AM PDT by opentalk

Occupy’s busting out on a new path … So Adbusters is asking people all around the world to march on Oct. 29. “We want to send a clear message that we the people want to slow down this global casino.” And Adbusters does have one specific demand, a 1 percent tax on financial-sector transactions. Some form of that idea, known as the “Robin Hood” tax.

Dominant Social Theme: We want justice for the world and the UN will give it to us.

Free-Market Analysis: Kalle Lasn, founder of Adbusters magazine, based in Vancouver, B.C. – the magazine that issued the call for the initial Occupy Wall Street protests – has called on people to protest the upcoming G20 while demanding a one-percent tax on financial transactions.

..The financial sales tax has been around for a very long time but has found its most recent voice in a column by Jerry Large of the Seattle Times. He recently gained an exclusive interview with Kalle Lasn, who sounds as if he hopes that a large protest on Oct 29th will mark the beginning of a push for such a tax.

What’s going on is pure one-worldism, an OWS ideology that is gradually revealing itself in dribs and drabs. It is one reason that that the OWS leaders have made no specific demands. They have hoped to create a momentum, apparently, before revealing what they are truly after. The movement seems to be part of a larger wave of directed history that has been in play for at least a century and is now reaching a dénouement.

The one-percent tax has been a staple of United Nations demands for more than a decade. Google UN and “one-percent tax” and plenty of information will appear – over three million citations, in fact.

The UN wouldn’t know justice if the UN tripped over it while rushing down a dark alley to participate in the gang rape of a third-world country.

This may be the real reason for Occupy Wall street. Canada and United States have been an obstacle to a global financial transaction tax.

European Commission calls for global tax, Canada says can block it

The European Commission said Wednesday it would push next month’s G20 summit to agree on a global financial transaction tax, but Canada said it may have enough support to block such a move.

..The idea has run into stiff resistance from Canada, the United States, Australia, China and others.

“...known as the “Robin Hood” tax.”

Robin Hood took tax money collected from the citizenry and returned it to them. I think these dopes are talking about a “Joseph Stalin Tax”.

The point of a “global tax” is so that the UN can fund an army to impose its will on the world.

All other excuses are just sugar coated lies.

This is the worst thing about the MSM coverage of the OWS protest . . . it is an action by FOREIGN NATIONALS on American soil. This is no "grass roots" American movement, it is a concerted effort by Adbusters against America with the assistance of the unions and the American Communist Party.

If the American people actually knew that the Canadian Adbusters was behind all of this, any hint of popular support would evaporate.

Explains why Pelosi sides with Occupy Wall Street.

Nancy Pelosi pushes global financial fee(Dec 2009)

Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave her strongest endorsement yet of a global financial transaction fee Thursday after raising the issue directly with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in a conversation this week.

Geithner was widely seen as opposing such a levy when it was proposed by Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, at a meeting of G-20 finance ministers last month in Scotland. But after their phone conversation Wednesday, Pelosi told colleagues that the secretary indicated he was more open to some such fee than had been reported

So instead of a national government accountable to the people that has been taken over by corporations, Occupy Wall Street wants a structurally unaccountable government run by corporations?

Great idea.

These idiots don't seem to know that the UN was set up by international bankers looking to use treaty law to get around the private property protections of the Constitution.

If this country had any real gonads, we’d kick these little defecating hippie communists OUT of our taxpayer funded parks and public areas. They are proving themselves enemies of this country.

No more dirtying up our city areas and crapping on people’s doorsteps. They have truly worn out their welcome.

If this is what they eventually come up with as their message, their movement is dead. We already pay more to the UN than any other nation. In fact, we should be REDUCING our "charity", and using the money for U.S. tax breaks. People here need jobs.

The polls showed people supporting the movement at first, and that emboldened them, but people thought - as far as they could tell - the kids wanted jobs and big money out of politics (both left and right) - not the other way around!

Other than stopping the city from cleaning up their filth what have the OWSers accomplished?
Otherwise, you know what I find most interesting is how dumb one can be even though they have a University or College degree.
I mean these OWSers if they had any sense could make themselves much more comfortable.
It wouldn’t take a lot of money either.

The scary part is one of them could be President one day.
Oh wait, one of them is President.
I can not believe Ibama’s overall appoval rating is not around 21%!?!
Anyhow, I could suggest a few simple solutions that would make the OWSers lives much more comfortable.
But, then again why should I?
They are smarter than everyone else...let them figure it out.

A little 2 Thess 3:10 would sure clean up their attitudes real quick.

A hungry belly would motivate them to be a bit more “productive” and less whiney.

1 percent tax on financial-sector transactions

Clearly these people don't know anything about economics. This would DESTROY the financial sector. For instances, many short-term financing (think, cash management for things like payrolls etc.) are yielding less than 1%. Since these short-term bonds are by definition bought and paid off as often as monthly, you would pay 24% in taxes on an annualized basis (2% per month because two transactions: Purchase of bonds plus bond face value payout at end of month). Short-term financing rates would skyrocket to 30% or more, causing a huge increase in borrowing costs and therefore less investment and less jobs and less income growth. Not to mention huge increases in layoffs and defaults as large companies can no longer get short-term financing to adjust for discrepancies between cash inflows and payroll dates or debt payment dates or payments to suppliers etc. The short-term money markets exist largely to help large corporations balance the mismatch in timing of cash inflows and outflows.

Of course, they also call for the forced forgiveness of any and all debts. This is insane: The debts owed to banks in either loans or bonds or mortgages back-up our deposited checking accounts. If all debts were wiped clean, banks' assets would be zero, and our bank accounts would empty. Even the FDIC wouldn't have enough money to prop up every bank in the US. It would be the Great Depression magnified 100 times. Not too mention that every bond fund in people's 401(k)'s and money-market accounts would now be worth zero, wiping out people's savings (that doesn't even take into account the devastating affects on the stock market).

Actually, now that I think about it, they may actually know this: Gainfully employed people don't usually vote for leftists.

At first, people thought they were just innocent college kids who couldn't find a job and had loans to pay.
Then, they became just a bunch of nasty freeloaders demanding free stuff.
Now, they're far left wing kooks demanding a one world government.
Yeah. People are going to bending over backwards to support them now - NOT!

Go home, kids. And take a shower for gosh sakes!

It is interesting to contrast Christian charity with socialism. In Christian charity, the money goes to people who cannot work for various reasons, or who can work, but still can't make enough money for basic necessities. In socialism, the money goes to people who CAN work, but don't want to, and it goes to them specifically BECAUSE they don't want to, and forcing them to work is seen by socialists as somehow evil.

Socialism is the rewarding of laziness. Christian charity is a grace given to those who are truly needful of it. Yet, you know, the left loudly screams that Jesus was a socialist, much like the Nazi "Christians" who opposed Bonhoeffer would scream that the Jewish Jesus was an Aryan and a National Socialist.

This is from a foreign news source

G20 defers decision on financial transaction tax

In an unusual hard-hitting statement issued last week, German chancellor Angela Merkel criticized G20 nations which are opposed to the proposal of a financial transactions tax.

“It can’t be that those outside the eurozone, who have pressed us time and again to take comprehensive action on the debt crisis, are at the same time working together to resist the introduction of a financial transaction tax,” said Merkel.

“I don't think this (opposition) is acceptable … We must ensure that financial market actors share in the costs of fighting the crisis. I will push for this until it happens, at least in Europe, even better worldwide,” she added.

There is no good reason for the tax “burden”, any idea that a new tax will help the economy is ludicrous to the extreme. These people are out and out economic idiots or full-on commies in my book. That includes Angela Merkel.
