"Rick Perry -- now coming out with, really embracing Steve Forbes' flat tax idea -- that's going to gain momentum. I look forward to hearing more of the details," she said. "In fact, when I heard that Rick Perry was embracing of Steve Forbes' idea, I went into my garage and dug out an old book from 1999 that Steve Forbes had written. ......Many aspects of it make so much sense - - about the freedom to choose - taxpayer how to file your taxes …..choose a simpler, fairer flat tax…..many of the aspects of it make so much sense."....

The problem is that Herman Cain has been using a tax plan as his platform for months...

No problem really, who knows, he may have gotten the idea from Perry. I'm glad the Republican candidates are looking at the issue, and some are putting forward plans.

Gov. Perry talked about the flat tax in his book Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington published well before Cain ever said 999.

"One option would be to totally scrap the current tax code in favor of a flat tax, and thereby make taxation much simpler, easier to follow and harder to manipulate," Perry writes in his book. "Another option would be to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution (which authorizes the taxation of income) altogether, and then pursue an alternative model of taxation such as a national sales tax or the Fair Tax."

They can go to work for all the new and growing companies.

(Or the lawyers fighting to maintain the status quo and fight the tort reform the new President Perry will push.)

It’s 23 years. He’s pro-life and pro-marriage, pro-second amendment,pro 10th.

You tell me when in the future he’ll flip:

He’s signed tort reform, voter ID, Defense of Marriage and then a Defense of Marriage Amendment to the Texas Constitution, parental consent for abortion, women’s informed consent, parental consent, then tightened the requirements for proof of ID for the parent or guardian, defunded Planned Parenthood, made sure no one receives State funds if they perform elective abortions or promote elective abortions, won State funds for Pregnancy Resource Centers, won the ultrasound Bill and the Choose Life license plate.

He sent the Texas Sheriff’s Coalition money for border security, sent helicopters, guns, DPS agents and Texas Rangers to supplement the federal forces. After 9-11, he spent money from the Governor’s office funds to tighten security at the Ports of Texas,as well as to train personnel in security at the airports and supply National Guards to the airports.

He’s made sure that the federal government knows that we’re watching the way they bring criminal illegal aliens to Texas to put in their eleven ICE detention centers, bring others from ARIZONA to send them across the border at small town border crossings in Texas.

There’s also Katrina,Rita, Ike, fires, tornadoes as well as the 2 devastating floods in my own home town since 2001.

How can anyone but industry create jobs? Slashing the hell out of our central socialist government would be a big help! That is the ONLY way we’ll get industry that can hire people for JOBS!

This is how you "create" jobs -- you create an environment that is friendly to employers!

Rick Perry:

FIRST: "Don't spend all the money!"

SECOND: "Have a fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy!"

THIRD: "Have a legal system that doesn't allow for over suing and make loser pay!"

Has he made a peep about this issue before last week?

"One option would be to totally scrap the current tax code in favor of a flat tax, and thereby make taxation much simpler, easier to follow and harder to manipulate," Perry writes in his book. "Another option would be to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution (which authorizes the taxation of income) altogether, and then pursue an alternative model of taxation such as a national sales tax or the Fair Tax." Does he know how many attorneys and CPA’s will be out of business the day after a flat tax goes into effect?

Many of the CPA's would be able to go to work in one of the thousands of new businesses created by the productivity and investment boom resulting from a flat tax. Others could move into investment couseling as many would have new-found wealth they won't know what to do with.

The lawyers could probably become employment placement couselors for the hordes of lobbyists that would be out of work.

Lawyers and teacher unions are already targeting Perry:

Trial lawyers prep for war on Perry America’s trial lawyers are getting ready to make the case against one of their biggest targets in years: Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Among litigators, there is no presidential candidate who inspires the same level of hatred – and fear – as Perry, an avowed opponent of the plaintiffs’ bar who has presided over several rounds of tort reform as governor.

And if Perry ends up as the Republican nominee for president, deep-pocketed trial lawyers intend to play a central role in the campaign to defeat him."....

Good post and wise advice. Our side is acting as though they have nothing to offer but tax plans.

It isn’t a winning path to defeat Obama.

The MSM loves it that our guys are stuck in a rut on taxes and appear clueless on many other issues.

Fair tax? Does that mean that everyone will pay their ‘fair’ share?

And who determines what is ‘fair’ or not?

Eh, it shows Cain’s political beliefs far more effectively than words.

And that ought to make anyone go, “Hmmm.”

If it wasn’t for Bush winning a landslide Perry would have lost to Sharp.

And he switched like 6 years after Gramm. The democrats weren’t the ONLY PARTY in 1988, nothing magic happened in 1989 expect Perry realized the democrats would soon be finished in Texas.

Wrong analogy,

The “(un)Fair Tax” is analogous to butt feeding.

A national sales tax of any kind will destroy this country in short order, including a loss of 50 million or more Small Business jobs in the first year.
