Still not sure....Perry flipped as a Democrat...when in the future will he flip back to democrat principles?
The readers want to know....
Rick Perry started as a Democrat in West Texas (essentially THE only party). He served in the Texas legislature - was known as one of the "pit bulls," conservative members who sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee and bitterly fought spending increases.
Perry changed parties in 1989, joining Phil Gramm and other conservative Texas Democrats, who now had a true ideological party with a burgeoning Texas GOP.
When Perry campaigned for Lt. Gov. , he and his campaign staff were in it to win and his hard-nosed style was against the "friendly" advice and request of GWB [in re-election bid for Texas Gov] and Rove to run easy against Sharp, a popular democrat (and Aggie friend of Perry's from their A&M years together). Rove wanted to broaden Bush's base for his upcoming White House run. Perry told them where to stick their advice, because he knew the voters would vote for Bush for Gov. and then cross back over and vote for Sharp (D) for Lt. Gov, if he just walked through the motions like the Bush-Rove team asked him to do.
Perry won the seat for Lt. Gov. -- the first Republican elected to that office since Reconstruction. Now 13 years later and into his 3rd term as Texas governor, the GOP holds a super majority. So Perry has earned his conservative spurs -- fighting both parties!
[The Bushes and Rove supported Kay Bailey Hutchison's primary challenge against Gov. Perry in the 2010 election too]
ooooohhh, that’s a hard one to predict. There’s so many examples, such as Reagan, who went from one to the other and then back and forth and...oh wait.
Even Texas, that was solidly Dem through the vast majority of its political history, once it became Republican, has kept switching back and forth and...oh wait.
He’s been an Repuublican since 1989..
Are not 22 years enough?
He came from an all dem district..and voted conservative in the Texas legislature when he was a representative.
It’s 23 years. He’s pro-life and pro-marriage, pro-second amendment,pro 10th.
You tell me when in the future he’ll flip:
He’s signed tort reform, voter ID, Defense of Marriage and then a Defense of Marriage Amendment to the Texas Constitution, parental consent for abortion, women’s informed consent, parental consent, then tightened the requirements for proof of ID for the parent or guardian, defunded Planned Parenthood, made sure no one receives State funds if they perform elective abortions or promote elective abortions, won State funds for Pregnancy Resource Centers, won the ultrasound Bill and the Choose Life license plate.
He sent the Texas Sheriff’s Coalition money for border security, sent helicopters, guns, DPS agents and Texas Rangers to supplement the federal forces. After 9-11, he spent money from the Governor’s office funds to tighten security at the Ports of Texas,as well as to train personnel in security at the airports and supply National Guards to the airports.
He’s made sure that the federal government knows that we’re watching the way they bring criminal illegal aliens to Texas to put in their eleven ICE detention centers, bring others from ARIZONA to send them across the border at small town border crossings in Texas.
There’s also Katrina,Rita, Ike, fires, tornadoes as well as the 2 devastating floods in my own home town since 2001.
Oh good grief, way back them Texas Democrats were to the right of moderate Republicans.
