Fear of Flying and Elevators

Well, I'm not very fond of either myself. But I'm not a dictator.

All dictators have their oddities - Emelda Marco's shoes, Hitler was a vegetarian.

I liked the line in a German paper that called him a “paranoid Bird of Paradise.”

I don’t know if I’d wear that shade of blush with the peacock feathers. Too gaudy.

Per my comment from another thread:

Q: What was the last thought in Qaddafi’s head before they shot him?

A: I should have endorsed McCain.

Interesting article. Reminds me of what CS Lewis wrote about the everlasting sameness of tyrants and dictators, as opposed to those who lead simple, moral, and upright lives -
“Sameness is to be found most among the most “natural” men, not among those who surrender to Christ. How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints.”

Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong, and Gaddafi... all cut from the same cloth, all with the same greeds and lusts and terrors, paranoias and sociopathologies.

“2. All-Female Virgin Bodyguard Retinue

3. His “Voluptuous” Ukrainian Nurse “

Can anyone explain why either of those things are “weird”?

I have to admit that “Bunga Bunga” sounds interesting too.

The weirdest thing is that he believed the USA State department when they took Libya off the terrorist list back in 2006 and said Libya was no longer in the terrorist business because he gave up his nuclear program, paid reparations to flight 103 victims and ratted out al queda locations and operatives to the CIA.

Everybody knows you can’t trust the USSA

The All-Female Virgin Bodyguards wore ‘high-heeled combat boots,’ something I’ve never seen in any Army surplus store. I assume they were bespoke.

“Bunga Bunga” sounds like a punchline to a joke. “But first, Bunga Bunga.” At least I have a new term for what Obama is doing to the country.

One thing Gadaffi will be remembered about , is that he led the devlopment of one of the most sophisticated water distribution systems in the world, turning the desert green in many places.

Under Gadaffi’s leadership, Libya was a world leader in converting desert into vegetation.

“Gaddafi was often ridiculed in the West for persevering with such an ambitious project. Pejorative terms such “pipedream”, “pet project” and “mad dog” appeared in UK and US media. Despite a certain amount of awe for the enormity of the construction, the Great Man-made River was often dismissed as a “vanity project” and then rarely mentioned in western media. But truth is, it’s a world class water delivery system, and often visited by overseas engineers and planners wanting to learn from Libyan expertise in water transfer hydro-engineering.”

If Gaderffii was the autocratic ruler of Libya, then why didn’t he promote himself past Colonel?

Because Kernel Khaddafi is easier to say.
