A number of Cleveland police showed up at Public Square, mainly to make sure things remained peaceful.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson released a statement indicating that all quadrants of Public Square are reserved for Winterfest, a holiday display funded by Huntington Bank.
They contend that the Constitution's right of free assembly trumps Winterfest, but have offered to help put up the Christmas displays.

Not much more at the link yet...it is marked as a developing story. I think it is kinda cute that they moved off the grass and to the sidewalks.
Some of the FB comments are interesting too.
I think the city is concerned that if this group stays, they will tap into the electrical system on public square as the display goes up. Access to electricity as those infamous lake effect winter winds blow would make things pretty comfy for them.
Dec. 13, 2010 we had at least a foot of snow and over 3ft. of snow in some areas. If Occupy Cleveland decides to stay ...
...can you imagine the headlines if people get frostbite, die or are hospitalized due to exposure all because the city would not turn on the electricity they would normally be using to light-up a Christmas display?
And all those issues would be blamable on ....
Huntington Bank the sponsor of Winterfest.
Snow drifts bury cars in Cleveland Park around noon today. 2/2010
Ugh...just a reminder of the storm from 2010...
This is Washington, DC.
I love the second photo at the link. What did they do, bring everything in their dorm rooms down there? What’s with all that crap?
A dozen were arrested last night.
They marched to the Justice Center around 11:30pm. Sounds like the police were busy last night.
WTAM is setting up discussion right now on the topic. WTAM is the big talk radio station...
Seems to me that is the space was already reserved for Winterfest, then squatters rights be damned.
Their permits expired? Pack your pooper scoopers and get out.
When does 0bama come out and tell cities to stop harrassing protestors?
Really, think about that for a second...isn’t that what he did regarding the foreign protests?

Look! They all have matching tents! It’s all grass roots!/sarc
They are merely putting on display all of the stuff they would be willing to do without if they could successfully overthrow capitalism.
Capitalism MADE ME buy all this!
If only capitalism didn’t exist, they could all live in harmony, out among the trees and shrubs. (Of course, they’d need to keep their cellphones and Internet connections, so they can update their Facebook status to show they’re tending to the farm.)
Bring on the bulldozers. Let’s see how many want to do the Rachel Corrie imitation!

Agreed. The right to free assembly and free speech trumps winter fest. Christmas has been Hijacked by corporate America anyway. Maybe we can recover Christmas while we’re at it. Corporate America has to answer to the American people. Stay where you are at. Don’t let down.”
Hey, we finally have at least one reason for the protests. Christmas has been hijacked by corporate America. /sarc
Good ob. I’m thinking shortly after they have their Kent St. Moment.
I think they should be left alone and ignored. Nothing worse than being ignored when trying to make a “point”. (even though they don’t what their point is) The snow will clobber them and they’ll run away.
I thought it was more ironic that they “volunteered” to help the bank put up the displays ....
Sure you have the right to free speech but it doesnt mean you get to speak where you want.
Huntington Bank has just as much right to free speech as they do. They went through the process to reserve the square and have a right to the square as previously arranged.
They better keep their hands off the Christmas decorations. Those are Union Jobs.
