If you have ever wondered about the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.

On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

They're not going to shut it off...It'll be like our LOCAL "nuclear plant" test....This is a test...etc

On the Federal Level alone?? Don't think they can do it. Imagine the surge....

I can’t see a legitimate need to cut off radio and TV in an emergency.

50-60 years ago it was a legitimate policy. The Soviet bombers could have used strong signals to home in on our cities, much as the Japanese had done with the commercial radio signals from Honolulu in 1941.

Google CONELRAD.

Here is the message:

Hello, this is his Excellency, Supreme ruler of the US and anointed lion king speaking. Now you know the power I have over you mere serfs. Just try to unseat me in the coming election and see what I can do. Now we will proceed to that portion of this message which will list the names of those who are to immediately report to reeducation camps. If you see the name of someone you know on this list, go get them and bring them in as it is your civic duty to do so. Also to you loyal core of block watchers, you are to report anyone to my security forces who exhibit any of the following items: Gadsen flag, NRA sticker, any demeaning image of me your lord high exhalter ruler, memberships in known subversive organizations like the libertarian party, GOP, Free Republic, Tea Party, and anyone else you suspect to be disloyal. Remember, the empire is at stake here. Thank you and good day.
Now we return to regular programming which will be a continuous rerun of His Excellencies speeches.

Yes, they’re testing the EAS that day. It’ll be the first nation-wide test of an emergency system since the 1950’s. HOWEVER...they aren’t “shutting off” the networks by any stretch of the imagination.

For three, that’s right...just three...minutes, they will activate the EAS from the White House using the exact same activation codes they’d use if the President wanted to speak to the American people during a national emergency. They want to see how well (or not) the system works. EVERY station will be required to broadcast the message, and those that don’t will be asked by the FCC to explain why they didn’t.

On this test, we will NOT hear or see Barry the Boob. This will be audio only...no slide or visual will be used. For some inexplicable reason, there is no standard visual to use in a national emergency (Why not?). This means some TV and cable systems will show a blank screen during the test. (I can just see some little old grandma out there in the Midwest who doesn’t realize what’s happening and dropping dead of a heart attack, thinking Doomsday is upon us.)

Like I’ve said before, there hasn’t ever been a nation-wide test of the system. Now, you could say we sort-of had one in 1971 when the idiot operator at NORAD sent the wrong message during a weekly test. If you look at the results of what happened, then the system failed miserably. Over half the country would not have known if we were under attack. This is a way for the FCC to gauge how (and if) the system will work and to take steps to fix what doesn’t.

Now, something I didn’t know...the EAS is basically a last-ditch effort to get a Presidential message out to the people, just in case the President couldn’t use the networks to talk to us.

There are some who will view this as a way for Barry the Boob to prepare to put us under martial law, but I don’t look at it as something so sinister. It really is a good idea to do this...just to make sure it works. And if in some future time he does use it to do just that, then you can say “I told you so”.

It is my understanding that all broadcast stations have been retro-fitted with a control box interface, hard wired to the regional EAS system, so the EAS has priority to override. Any attempt to remove or defeat the override renders the equipment non-functional. It is no longer in the station engineers control at all. Any group attempting to seize control and get a message out will have non-functioning equipment.

This has been done for several years now and has been posted on FR. When the time comes to keep Americans from communicating with each other, it can be done. Any radio transmissions from Amateur Radio Operators or CBers will be dealt with as needed. You can’t jam an entire continent - I think...

I can’t see a legitimate need to cut off radio and TV in an emergency.

Quite the opposite in fact.

Unless of course it was a political emergency like civil insurrection or someone trying to enforce the constitution. Or people wanting to -gasp- vote.

A situation they are obviously preparing for.

Here and now, I am betting that the first voice, face or words you will encounter during this EAS propaganda is Obama and his big ears and queer lisp. It will start out as public service broadcast that quickly degenerates into a campaign commercial about how he is doing this, he commanded it, and it was so.

Short of a thermonuclear EMP pulse or shooting down the communications satellites, they can't.

Dear Broadcast professional,

Your government is conducting a test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS) on November 9, 2011.

All television and radio communications must be turned off at 2:00PM EST. Per executive order any station continuing to broadcast between 2:00PM EST and 2:10PM EST will be subject to an immediate and permanent revocation of its privileges to use the public airways.

We are looking forward to your full voluntary cooperation during this critical test.

Sincerely,

Your Betters at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS).

I have a friend who works in the broadcast business...he told me about this.

Hussein could very well be preparing for his cult to perform a coup next year. I’m half joking.

THAT is what happened with the idiot operator at NORAD back in ‘71.

Over half the country’s radio stations either didn’t get the message, didn’t broadcast the message, or didn’t believe the message. It was 25 minutes before the AP and UPI sent word that the EAN was a screw-up. If it were the real thing, the first signal that half the country would have known something was wrong was when they saw the bright flash...right before they vaporized.

The new system is designed that if missiles were coming over the Pole, the President could speak to the whole nation within 10 minutes over the EAS to let us know, then tell us to kiss our collective a$$es goodbye.

Could the EAS be used to deliver a statement announcing martial law? Yes, it could.
