Toddler in China hit by 2 vehicles, then ignored, dies
By Keith B. Richburg, Published: October 21
BEIJING A 2-year-old girl who was run over by two vehicles and left lying in the street ignored by bystanders died early Friday morning in a Guangdong hospital, Chinese media reported. She had been in a coma since the incident one week ago.
The plight of the little girl, identified as Xiao Yueyue, ignited an intense round of public soul-searching here on why so many people 18, according to surveillance video of the scene could pass by an injured, bleeding toddler in the road without offering to help. Some of the passersby had to steer their motorcycles around her body.

Prayers for this little child and her parents. I tried to watch the video previously but can’t watch all the way through. It is just horrific.
I have been told that under Chinese law, if you call for help for someone who is unable to pay, you are responsible even if you don’t know them.
I can’t watch the video. I mean, I won’t.
It happened in China, but I can’t help but think it might have happened in almost any metropolis. It’s distressingly easy to be apathetic in numbers.
I have read several articles about this incidence along the lines of what you are talking about. One person brought a dying woman to the hospital, only to be charged with hitting her. The judge reasoned that only the guilty person would take the effort to bring the victim to the hospital. There also are no "good Samaritan" laws (a truly Western concept). Thus you can be sued by the people you help if you move them or don't aid them correctly.
All this points out that cultures are different. The automatic reaction that many Westerners have (or at least used to have) to help is based on the knowledge that they will not be charged with a crime or sued if the victim dies while being helped.
At the very least, they need laws to protect “Good Samaritans” and shouldn’t charge them. I don’t doubt what you say about them charging people who help - they used to charge executed prisoners families the cost of the bullet - but, it is completely backward of what a civil society should be doing.
I don’t agree with prosecuting people who don’t help, but penalizing ones who do is insane.
I watched the video and was in tears at the heartlessness of first of all, the driver who saw the toddler walking in front of him. The driver was probably driving only 2- 3 mph, bumped into the poor little baby, ran over him with his front tire, stopped just before the rear tire ran her over again, then just went ahead rolling over her stomach or chest. Then another driver hit her again, running over her legs. Many people just looked and walked on. They call these people humans.
I am not surprised this little girl died. How incredibly sad and heartless.
This is what happens when you have a godless society known as communism. We are so cooked if our country ever turns away from God, hope we never enter that stage in our history...FIGHT AND NEVER GIVE UP!!! COMMUNISM=UNCOMPASSION HEARTS!
Am I drawing the wrong conclusion? It seems that communist China tries to enforce people being completely isolated and complete individuals.
We in America always say that the left and communist want group think and are against individualism. To me, it seems they don’t want thriving local communities.
This case emphasizes the uncaring, heartlessness of large central governments, and it shows that those governments don’t want people to help each other - community, not individualism and free action. If the help isn’t from the government, then drop dead.
It seems there is a blurring between the individualism (take care of yourself) and the collectivism. The bottom line, communism is evil and destructive.
I couldn’t bear to watch the video, either. The people of China have hard hearts apparently and need the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am glad the baby died so she can be comforted and loved by our Savior throughout all eternities. Amen.
I think I was able to get through half before my stomach actually churned and I completely teared up. I was amazed at the one scene where a Mother (holding the hand of her own daughter) could just walk by... doing nothing. No empathy... she could hold her own daughter’s hand but couldn’t transfer her own maternal feelings onto a helpless, dying little girl. In previous FR posts, some Freepers have stated that in China if you involve yourself (or even contact authorities) you could easily be charged with the crime or detained for a long period of time. Thus, the Chinese governments rules have actually created people who “fear” helping a person (even an innocent baby).
Exactly. China has produced 3 generations of godless communists, and counting. Only the elderly remember the pre-communist days. Remember this when dealing with any person from China.
On this plus side, I know multiple young immigrants from China who have wholeheartedly embraced Christianity.
Who needs girls in China?
Anyone here remember Kitty Genovese in New York? We have our own apathetic, heartless members of society as well. Many people watched and listened as she was brutally murdered; no one even called the police.
It took 15 posts to get to the point. China has been selectively killing baby girls for years as a means of "population control". Sad but true.
