Rebels: Gadhafi's son Saif al-Islam captured alive

Slain dictator Moammar Gadhafi's influential son and heir-apparent, Saif al-Islam, has been captured alive and uninjured, rebel sources told NBC News on Saturday.

Saif al-Islam and Moussa Ibrahim, the former spokesman for the Gadhafi's regime, were both captured in the Libyan city of Nessma, near Bani Walid, and were currently being transported to Misrata, rebel forces told NBC News.

Educated at the London School of Economics and a fluent English speaker, Saif al-Islam was once seen by many governments as the acceptable, Western-friendly face of Libya.

"We fight here in Libya; we die here in Libya," he told Reuters TV in an interview early in the rebellion.

Before he dies, a rebel leader or two will want to know where the money is. Then they will kill him. If he's lucky it will be a shot to the head, if he's not lucky, they will turn him over to some vengeful women.

He might buy his freedom to exile with disclosing all these pesky little details.

If he's smart, he'll agree to tell them ONLY when he's in what he considers a safe place, like an American or British embassy, in the presence of the Ambassador, or some other person of authority. There he can be protected from suffering his father's fate. They would be stupid NOT to allow that to happen, otherwise, they'd get nothing.

They can do the transfers, via computer, then change the passwords so they can be assured he won't transfer it back, later. I'm sure he has several accounts he WON'T disclose to them, but if they believe they have the lion's share of his father's money, they may not even bother about his own personal wealth.

Any escape will worry the British political elite who could face acute embarrassment if Saif was ultimately captured and ended up in court.

Saif became close to leading figures in the British government after Tony Blair signed the notorious ‘Deal in the Desert’ in March 2004. Prince Andrew has also been linked to the bomber’s controversial release.

The Duke of York was accused of holding secret ‘detailed discussions’ over the release of the Lockerbie bomber with Saif in 2009, during an official Foreign Office-sponsored trip to Algeria.

I rather doubt Saif al-Islam has been captured - this is the fourth time “rebel sources” have claimed he has been captured - wounded in both legs, is in hospital having an arm amputated, or dead.

A thousand cameras and no photographs - yeah right.

The only thing left for “rebel sources” to say is that he has “ascended into heaven (sorry no photo.)
