Who can say "gay" isn't okay in New Jersey? Judging by Gov. Chris Christie's actions, teachers can't.
Christie told CNN's Piers Morgan on June 15 that he doesn't think homosexuality is a sin even though his religion does. To be sure that the citizens of New Jersey are aware of Christie's beliefs, the interview and transcript are posted on the official New Jersey website. Okay, that's his opinion. But read on.
New Jersey high school teacher Viki Knox may have been inspired by Christie's comments to think that it was okay for a New Jersey public employee to express an opinion about homosexuality, as if the First Amendment is alive and well in New Jersey.
Knox believes that homosexuality is a sin. She posted her belief -- not on an official school web site, but on her personal Facebook page. The Union High School District is investigating Knox to determine if she violated school policies.
If Knox's First Amendment rights aren't shed at the schoolhouse gate, as the U.S. Supreme Court held in Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School Dist., surely her rights aren't shed at the gate of her house:
First Amendment rights, applied in light of the special characteristics of the school environment, are available to teachers and students. It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.
According to Jeanette Rundquist and Peggy McGlone writing for the New Jersey Star-Ledger on Oct. 18:
Knox, 49, used her Facebook page to criticize a display in her Union Township school marking Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month. She called homosexuality a "perverted spirit" and a "sin" that "breeds like cancer."
Christie could have seized the chance to shed his reputation...

The “gays” are right about this: that the abandonment of traditional sexual morality, which made sex as an end in itself, with no relation to family and reproduction, opened the door for all sorts of sexual perversions.
That is why I used the adverb “willingly.” It iimplies that they have another option.
I see the Garden State is in bad shape.
Does anyone here from Jersey remember the New Jersey Network? I saw an old video on YouTube that featured various individuals from the state,as well as the state itself. “Positively New Jersey” is the title. It’s starting to sound like “Positively awful New Jersey”
Christie told CNN's Piers Morgan on June 15 that he doesn't think homosexuality is a sin even though his religion does.
We have a name for Catholics that pick and chose what they believe in.
Yes,They’re called “Brazilians.” (Inside joke with the wife).
The issue as to whether it is a sin or not is a question of religious values. Regardless of where one stands on this, there are secular (sociological and financial) reasons as to why "gay marriage" and other "gay rights" proposals are harmful to both civil society and government in general.
As to the statement that "homosexuality breeds like cancer," Ms. Knox is wrong as you said, wrong if you take the word "breeds" either literally or figuratively.
But the First Amendment doesn't necessarily exclude the right to speech that is factually wrong. Heck, leftists have been factually wrong on so many issues for so long, yet no one questions their First Amendment rights.
It's nice to know that there is a clear Supreme Court precedent which appears to support Ms. Knox' position that it would be unconstitutional for the school district to fire her in retaliation for her Facebook post.
Actually, homosexuals breed by exhibiting their lifestyle. Acceptance of a wrong, breeds more wrong behavior. I don’t care what people do in the privacy of their lives, but showcasing abominable behavior breeds more of it.
Good post.
First they came for the teachers but I wasn’t a teacher ...
Thanks for the ping/post; thread. Thanks to all posters. Tremendous insight into Chris Christie.
HOORAY Jan LaRue for writing this article! Thanks for bringing this to our attention, neverdem.
Actually Catholic teaching is that only homosexual activity is a sin. The inclination is not a sin but a disordered affection. Except for original sin, sin requires a willful act.
I told you he was not what I believed I was voting for. I don’t think he has improved NJ at all. I would not vote him in as a dog catcher. So not impressed! Disgusted is more like it.
