These kids who put themselves in debt for $100K+ for a useless degree surely have been lied to. But they are angry at all the wrong people, and advocate all the wrong solutions.

Country Boy Can Survive
Hank Williams Jr

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cuz we’re them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cuz we’re them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I wonder, if parents alone had to pay for schooling and there were no substantial student loans, how many students would get away with running amok instead of learning something valuable.

Fewer. Many fewer.

I majored in Physics and Electrical Engineering with a minor in mathematics.

As an undergrad I worked a full time job and carried 18 credit hours per semester. I slept about 4 hours a day on weekdays and maybe 6 to 8 hours on the weekends.

Most of these unemployed “graduates” have degrees that should be printed on toilet paper, that’s about all they are worth.

Sure, there are plenty of unemployed engineers out there too, but they are pounding the street looking for work, not bitching and demanding a hand-out.

I wonder if half the reason banks have been going under is because too many students took out too many loans and haven’t gotten paid the money they are owed.

If you're like me, every time one of your friends told you how your course selection was too much work and too little fun, you just smiled with the knowledge that you were getting a marketable degree and they were not.

Even in bad times, a trained engineer can get some kind of work that doesn't involve condiment selection.

Most certainly; plus parents would be demanding a more intense and demanding curriculum for their kids and would probably sooner horsewhip their son/daughter if they wasted time on protests. Before student loans were widely available, students studied and didn’t waste time on protesting or behaving like trollops.

And yet, when a guy like me shows up, no tattoos, appropriately dressed, speaking
English, presenting a resume with proper spelling and grammar and qualifications and experience....

These INEPT hiring managers and heads of personnel won’t give me the time of day because I am almost 50.

I am tired of hearing them whine about the unqualified young fools they have to choose from when there are thousands of mature white males qualified and ready to work.

She was 16 from Cincinnati. She could not tell time on an analog clock....................

Our neighbor is a teacher and one of her students asked her what the time was since she had forgotten her cell phone. The teacher pointed to the clock behind her desk and the kid had no clue what time it was either.

My wife interviewed an applicant who was then caught shoplifting on the way out.

I sense a future in politics.
