Texas governor Rick Perry, who is embarking on a hard push to recapture the buzz that surrounded him when he first entered the race for the Republican presidential nomination, is doubling down on the "birther" issue and also deeming his rival Mitt Romney a "fat cat."
In an interview with John Harwood of CNBC and the New York Times on Tuesday, Perry was asked why he was keeping the "birther" issue alive. During an interview with Parade Magazine published Sunday, Perry suggested he doesn't "have a definitive answer" to whether President Obama was born in the United States. Mr. Obama released his long-form birth certificate in April and there is no evidence to suggest he was not born in the United States, but that hasn't stopped some prominent Republicans, including Donald Trump, from making the charge anyway.
Perry responded, "'It's a good issue to keep alive."

At least he is not sticking his head in the sand and accepting what lots of others say is a bogus BC.
Still not voting for him, but he just gained a lot of respect from me for being willing to stick his neck out. Even IF (big IF) Obama is born here, there’s plenty surrounding the issue that needs a full airing.
This “article” makes it sound as if Perry is actually pursuing the issue and making it a key part of his campaign.
Good for Gov. Perry.
Perry said he doesn’t care about this issue, that it’s a distraction.
Liberals are lying like crazy about this, I just heard this lie on the radio as well.
This is eactly why the “reporter” asked Perry the question.
This mess about Obama’s Constitutional eligibility to be President has been a game that he’s played. Part of the confusion that has surrounded his Presidency. His power grab now is more of the same; only ramped up.
He has done more to hurt this country than any one man in history; of course, he’s had a lot of help.
Troll alert actually.
Even if Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama had been birthed in the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House Obama is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
That's not all he said. If he were more sensible and didn't want to get stuck defending dopey conspiracy theories, he would have just said the issue is settled and he's not getting involved in it. Period.
The birther stuff is kooky and Perry is foolish for allowing himself to get drawn into the loony discussion. I trust his new campaign team will quickly let him know to drop the birther nonsense and never respond to any questions about it again other than to say the issue is settled.
True that much of it has. And each and every bit of that game is a campaign commercial waiting t be made.
If the Dems are so contemptuous in their handling of such a potentially serious matter and the ramifications, such could be used as a nuclear weapon by a candidate with the huevos to expose it fully.
Snitt is such a disguising lying SOB there has to be some kind of way to wake people up to the fact having as President someone who was bragging about Romney Care is too big of a risk to take. We need someone dedicated to getting rid of Obamacare and tearing down the whole rotten mess the democrat fascists have built over the past fifty years, not someone who has a long history of going along to get along while in office.
If Romney is the candidate the people of this country lose, whether Romney manages to beat Barry in the election or not.
If Perry Does not ask why Obama does not produce his long form birth certificate and prove he was born in the US,then Perry is not being honest with us, he is continuing the avoidance of the question.
These obots never quit. bill o’lier in Fox just stated that Rubio is also a Natural Born Citizen “because” he was born in FLA. The idiot really thinks people still believe him.
He is the one that stated on TV that he had seen obama’s birth certificate and obama is a Natural Born Citizen “because” he was born in HI.
say what? What a schmuck he is for saying that
He’s being tactical about it, and it might work.
He says he doesn’t care about it, and that it’s a distraction, but he knows that just by mentioning it in that context, he’s going to get ink and get people thinking about it again.
It’s clever, but slightly underhanded, IMHO. He’s trying to get his cake and eat it, too.
The other question is: Is the Mitt a natural born citizen? Seems like I saw info his father George was born in Mexico; that disqualifies the Mittster if true.
