To the catalog of missed opportunities for peace in the Middle East, we can add a tantalizing if also depressing chapter: Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's secret offer in 2008 to create a Palestinian state that would feature international control of holy sites in a divided Jerusalem a concession many Israelis have said was impossible.
Condoleezza Rice discusses the Olmert proposal in her new memoir, "No Higher Honor." She writes that as she listened to Olmert's plan during a May 2008 visit to Israel, she asked herself (and the emphatic italics are hers in the text):
"Am I really hearing this? ... Concentrate. Write this down. No, don't write it down. What if it leaks? It can't leak; it's just the two of us."
As Rice tells the story, Olmert developed a comprehensive plan, which he presented secretly to Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, in the summer of 2008. By September, the details of Olmert's offer included:
Israeli transfer of sovereignty of 94.2% of the West Bank to the new Palestinian state. He offered additional swaps of land, and a corridor linking the West Bank and Gaza, that would bring the total Palestinian land area to 100% of the pre-1967 borders of the West Bank.
A formula for dividing Jerusalem that would give Arab neighborhoods to the Palestinians and Jewish neighborhoods to Israel, with negotiators working out the status of mixed neighborhoods. Each country would have Jerusalem as its capital; there would be a joint city council with an Israeli mayor and a Palestinian deputy mayor.

There can be no peace where there are Muslims
2.) I would not let the "international community" have control of a lemonade stand. There is not a thing they have touched that they have not screwed up.
I doubt very seriously if a deal like that would have bought Mideast peace. In fact, it would probably have brought the next holocaust that much closer.
Any land given to the Palestinians becomes a down payment.
Olmert was a traitor, just like Rabin.
This “deal” just didn’t go far enough. Now if Olmert had guaranteed that every Israeli family would off themselves with poison and cleanse the land of Jewish blood, Abbas might have gone for it.
As for Lil Miss Condi?
Shoulda stuck to playing piano.
They might win a Nobel for Suicide Bombing Physics with enough research...

Israelis have learned that signed agreements with Palestinians lead to Israeli concessions but not peace.
Even if Israel disappeared tonight there would still be no peace in the middle east.
“Mr. Know-It-All leads the Know-Nothings”.
“What a mistake!”
What an understatement!
This guy's entire administration can be summed up in that insight.
Next year's election cycle ought to be “interesting” to the point of being unprecedented.
What will he and his party run on?
Certainly nothing domestic.
He trumpets his foreign policy “coups” without reference to anyone else, and most all of these “coups” have involved little more than killing.
How can he hype the future, given his past?
If the repubs don't rip this guy non-stop from the get-go, then the party needs to go the route of the Whig party, and be replaced by something that has a more robust future - like the American Tea Party!
Israel wants peace, Moslems want murder. Moslems do not, will not, and have not ever negotiated in good faith.
It wasn't Rice's plan. It wasn't W's plan. It was Israel's plan!

No Condi, you were never close to peace. The palestinians have no interest in peace, which is why the offer, like Camp David, was turned down.
