Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner strongly defended President Obama from criticism that he was distracted from dealing with the economy in 2009 as he tried to pass healthcare reform.
Absolutely not," Geithner told CBS News' Norah O'Donnell when asked if Obama had taken "his eye off the ball on jobs.''
"He was relentlessly focused on it," Geithner said in the interview that aired Tuesday night. "And in fact he was doing things that were deeply difficult politically for him.
Geithner cited the $825-billion stimulus package passed in early 2009, along with the government rescue of General Motors and Chrysler, as well as enactment of financial reform as proof Obama was focused on reducing unemployment.

Yes, It's time for another episode of..
The Buck Stops in China.
since when does the Chairman of the Fed go around the country campaigning for the president?.....
He’s focused on destroying them. That is unsaid, but very true.
Well, I just wish he was as “relentlessly” focussed on winning re-election.
Then even a Ron Paul would be elected!!!
Yep, yep, he has to STOP focusing on jobs for overseas countries and focus on jobs HERE! But his POLOCIES are DRIVING our jobs overseas!!! Especially with the help of his union thug fans.
Focus = 1,000 speeches
The only job he is relentlessly focused on is his own. He is in constant re-elect mode.
I can focus on a pot of water.....doesn’t mean it will boil.
The Cretin-in-Chief has never been competent in ANY job, let alone this one.
He is an idiot, packaged in a coat of stupidity.
Wrapped up in cretinism.
And covered in bull-Obama.
This “thing” couldn’t focus on anything.
‘relentlessly focused’ on jobs..
Is that like being hypnotized?
Relentlessly focused on DESTROYING jobs.
If true, he's a failure. If false, he's derelict of duty.
Relentlessly focused? On jobs or the golf ball?
He’s incompetent or malevolent, or both.
Sure. Obama has been focused on watching them fly out the door at an unprecedent rate. He is King of the job destroyers.
So “relentlessy” in fact, this is the result
IOW, he has been a failure. He has no “solutions” He has no “improvement” He has nothing . .epic fail.
Geithner is the Secretary of the Treasury, not the chairman of the Fed.
I do think that Obama has been relentlessly focused on jobs - the jobs of groundskeepers, golf equipment manufacturers, and purveyors of fine junk food everywhere.
It’s just another example: Everything Zero touches turns into crap.
You got that right. Obama has attended only one Presidential Daily Briefing over the last 19 days. (Key Word: DAILY)
If he can't find the time to attend a daily briefing set up exclusively to keep him abreast of current matters, then how can we believe that he is concerned about anything having to do with his duties as President?
....now we are into a real two-for, a double header.
Lets watch him destroy the private sector and its jobs and then jack the debt astronomically......watch the per capita debt load trickle down.
.... and then project the impact and what is left of America.
Yeah, when he’s not on the stump spewing his passive-aggressive snark or holed up in the WH watching endless hours of reality game shows or ESPN on TV. btw, expect him to intervene soon in the NBA labor dispute; there’s no way he can survive missing an NBA season.
“Obama has been ‘relentlessly focused’ on jobs”
Just like OJ is relentlessly focused on searching for Nichole’s killer.
And by ‘relentlessly focused on jobs’ he means; giving government jobs to union thugs, tax cheats and Communists.
Oh, the Oval Office is focused on jobs, all right, but only if the job holder also has a union card.
Non-union need not apply.
Of course, not widely noted, but card-carrying union members make up a relatively small part of the non-government work force. Card-carrying public employees, on the other hand, have grown in numbers, of almost explosive expansion within the past decade.
