Obama admin renews push for solar energy in West

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration on Thursday identified 17 sites in six Western states as prime candidates for solar energy projects on public lands, continuing a push for solar power despite the high-profile bankruptcy of a solar panel maker that received a half-billion dollar federal loan.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the latest "Solar Energy Zones" refine and improve on a draft released in December that identified two dozen areas in California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.

Did he remember to tell DiFi and the Sierra Club to get out of the way of the Mojave Solar project?

I just did a search, trying to figure out who and what was behind this scheme.

I didn’t find much, except that the Obama administration is saying that we lease public land to oil and gas companies (he didn’t mention coal, but...), so why not for solar energy.

What I did find was this remark:

The plan is intended to promote development of large, utility-scale solar projects on public lands that will generate thousands of megawatts of electricity. The zones are intended to maximize electricity generation while minimizing conflicts with wildlife and cultural and historic resources.

Now, to me that says that these projects are going to be on Indian land. The leases will be paid with government money, loans to companies like Solyndra from the ffn, that are never intended to be paid back, just like the loans to the Black colleges from the ffn.

My little town, Boulder City, NV pop. 15,000, will soon approve another lease of prime desert dirt for a solar photovoltaic facility.

This 1500 acre lease at $1700/acre/yr for 50 yrs. goes to Komipo, a utility provider backed by the Korean government. They will deposit $5.2 million up front and provide the town with 2 megawatts/yr. free. The project is for 250-300 megawatts of generation. Komipo has also donated $10,000 to the city's museum.

Samsung wanted to pay $2,500/acre but only put $250K up front and have a 25 yr. opt out. No dice!! Show us the money!!

Don't need no Obammunist handout. We still have 50,000+ acres ready to go, EPA pre-approved, Hoover Dam transmission lines ready.

This expensively produced, uneconomical, renewable energy will, of course, be sold to California leftist/greenie whackos.

So...we loan them the money to make the panels . Then we buy the panels from the companies that we loaned the money to . Then we give them the land to install them . This should all work out well for whats left of us taxpayers .

It was the line about protecting cultural and historic value that makes me think that some of this will be on Indian land.

The problem with these projects that receive gov’t money is that the money doesn’t pay for the additional power lines needed to carry the power to California. The tax payers end up footing the bill, even though they don’t benefit from the power. That is what is happening from wind projects in WA and Oregon, all for the benefit of California, and GE.

Agreed.

Now get this. 40 miles south of Boulder City is the unincorporated town of Laughlin.

Land speculator and U.S. Democrat Senator Harry Reid talked Clark County into leasing about 5000 acres to the ChiComs.

The Red Chinese will build a solar panel manufacturing plant (the stuff that broke Solyndra) and then use it on the land next door to generate electricity. No U.S. subsidies except the bucks sitting in Beijing vaults.

This energy will then be sold by the ChiComs to the California Communists.

They are leasing land in Idaho to the Chinese, as well. I forget what it is they plan to manufacture, but they plan TO BRING IN CHINESE WORKERS.

There is some talk that the coal terminal that they want to build in my county is really planned to bring in materials from China to service this new Chinese industrial zone in Idaho.

Oh, and yes, they just announced the destruction of another dam in WA state last week.

Soon the only wide open spaces to be seen will be in all those wonderful old western movies made before the Greenies took over.

Now all open spaces in movies will be computer generated special effects.
