Perry's plan to skip debates prompts criticism from Gingrich, Santorum

Two of his Republican rivals on Thursday criticized Rick Perry, who has dropped hints he may skip some of the upcoming presidential debates.

In a question-and answer-session with reporters following an education forum in New York City, former Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich both suggested it is a sign of weakness for Perry to take a pass on some future debates. At least 10 have been scheduled between now and the end of January.

"I'd never skip a debate. I'd never skip the opportunity to let the American public know what I think about these issues," Santorum said.

"I'm all about digging deeper and people getting to know the candidates."

The fact that he and the rest agreed to this epic display of MSM warfare called “the debates” trapped them all. Now none can back out without looking like cowards unless they do so en masse - all of which plays into the Dems hands.

Perry is sunk already so regardless of what he does in them, it will not matter to any but the total posthappy fanatic/sycophants here on FR. And since that type believe black is white and up is down as they have so embarassingly displayed in hundreds of posts, Perry will ‘surely retake the lead due to his bold leadership style and outside the box thinking’. (I think I threw up a little).

And people called us Palinistas “cultists”....

I have insisted from the start that these line-ups are designed only to enable the media to make republicans look bad. I would respect Perry's trial balloon if he framed it as an attempt to recruit all the gop contenders in a boycott of debates until, say, January. But he didn't. He is just hinting at running and hiding and hoping he somehow outlasts the competition.

Sorry, still no sale.

My word. Perry can't explain how "abstinence works?" He just knows from personal experience that it does?? Geezis.

It wasn’t nasty it’s just fact. Some in the Perry crowd at FR do worship the man and they have made that abundantly clear.

You are right, NL. We've all watched as Perry has dropped like a rock and continues to do so. Even so, his die hard supporters insist he has staged a 'comeback'.

If 'comeback' means drop from 31.4% to 10.5%, they may have a case.

Morris is wrong more times than he is right. But he may be right on this.

Don't forget: he's in showbiz. But he's a reliable conservative now, and moderately entertaining.

And right on with this.

Not a particularly flattering exchange, I know.

Add what we have seen of him in the debates and just the thought of him debating Barry is frightening.

You are either woefully unaware at the excuses made by the fan club and the shots they have taken at anyone daring to point out Perry’s legitimate problems, or just do not care.

If the former, I suggest you pick some of the names of the most vocal supporters and read their post histories. Concentrate on posts involving the keywords “fence’ ‘illegal’ and ‘shut up’ (or a variant thereof. If the later, well, whatever.

Oh it's true alright. Some post pictures of the man that serve no purpose. They do so so they and other worshipers can go ga ga over him. It's a sickening display but they are certainly free to do it just as I am free to point it out.

And 'groveling' doesn't even come close in comparison to the nastiness shown by some in the Perry worship committee. I was told I "hate Texas females and want them to die of cancer" because I was critical of Perry's nanny-state Gardasil debacle. Now that was nasty.

.....these aren’t “debates”, they’re dog-and-pony shows.....

I’m not sure that you perception is correct. The Debates have certainly help America develop an appreciation for Herman Cain and allowed Newt Gingrich to redeem himself to many Americans who despised him. They now love him; or at least love his politics. Yours truly for one.

Yes, there sure seems to be.

I ping conservatives to Perry threads using a variety of images.

The Perry people do the same thing.

I'm sure my critics in this thread have also been critical of the Perry worship committee pings and I just must have missed it. /s

Wonder why they are so upset? Perhaps because it will be too boring watching them all sucking up to Mitt.

No. It's probably because they know that the Debates cut Perry's poll numbers drastically. He went from 32 percent, when he first entered the field, to 6 percent today. All because he couldn't debate his way out of a wet paper bag. They want him into the negatives in polling.

You really should try to have at least a modicum of knowledge on a topic before you don't you chime in and make a complete fool of yourself.

Read the thread yourself and see that I was in fact as nice as Aunt Bea prior to that crude, thoroughly nasty and uncalled for remark.

I think Perry is basically a good governor and a good guy, but that sort of performance is not at the level we should demand of a presidential candidate. It’s not even close.
