GOP Insiders Near-Unanimous in Predicting Romney Nomination
National Journal ^ | October 28, 2011 | Taylor West and Peter Bell

The large Republican presidential field, along with the dramatic surges and collapses of several of its candidates, may ultimately be much ado about nothing. That, at least, is the conclusion of the Republican strategists surveyed in this week's National Journal Political Insiders Poll, who almost unanimously identified Mitt Romney as the most likely candidate to win the nomination. In the five times the GOP Insiders have been asked that question in 2011, Romney has never surrendered the top spot.

I’m with you. I think the ticket will be Romney/Cain (and like it or not, Cain is a Romney supporter) in hopes that people who hate the RINO will vote for the VP. I voted for Palin, too, but it was a waste of time and I knew it. And I have never been sure that McCain wouldn’t have found some way of dumping her if he had by some miracle gotten elected.

The GOP tried running a VP once and it didn’t work. The VP is meaningless. Plugs Biden was a joke and was only picked because he was white, dumb and no threat to Bambi. But people voted for Bambi, not against Biden; Bambi could have run with Sponge Bob as his running mate and people still would have voted for him.

There is no way I would vote for Romney, who would do nothing but reinforce Obama’s policies, probably keep most of Bambi’s appointees on board, and would be the final nail in the coffin for the GOP.

...by November they will have fallen in ‘like’ with him given that the alternative is Obama.”

Not this Republican, I refuse to 'hold my nose' again for anyone. There's not a nickel's worth of difference between Prezbo and Mittens. I'm going to vote, but it won't be for Dem Light.

They want to lose——again.

Status-quo, they regain control of the senate, keep the house and get their turn back at the public tit even if they don’t win the white house.

Sad thing is the country is in such bad shape that even without conservative votes that snake oil salesman Romney might win. Ah, you go from liberal to diet liberal...

You know, I didn’t like McCain but I didn’t hate him. Never in my adult life has the GOP nominated someone who I absolutely hate. I learned my lesson with Lyndon Baines Bush. Electing a big government, spendaholic regulator as president is worse than losing.

How quickly they (the GOP) forget what happened in the 2010 elections. We conservatives showed our force in that election. The narratives from the GOP Rinos is that the Tea Party and other conservatives will fall in line and vote for Romney. An overwhelming number of Conservatives, like myself, have our day-to-day jobs, family, and faith that consume most of our time. Rest assurred that as we approach the primaries and election time, we will be heard from. We've done our homework and understand fully what's at stake in the next election. The sleeping giant no longer sleeps. We are waiting until the time is right and we will be a force to be reckoned with. If we are not successful in the next election, this could possibly our last.

I do not totally agree with you, but you are far more right then wrong!!! We cannot allow a RINO like Mitt Romney to be nominated. Our nominee, whoever he or she may be, needs to go on the attack with supreme gusto on both Obama and the Democrat Party. When I think of how weak sister, McCain kissed up to Obama, it makes me sick!!! McCain knew what a Marxist Obama was and, like the media, gave him a clear pass. We cannot afford this again!!! Obama is dirty, from head to toe, and....IMHO, is doing everything humanly possible to destroy the American Republic both economically and through a foreign policy that gives great advantage to all the enemies of these United States of America. I am also deeply dismayed that the GOP field of nominees, conservatives included, never launches sustained truthfull attacks on Obama during their debates (another pass, IMHO). For goodness sakes, Obama has purposely lost the entire Middle East, less Israel, to the Muslim Brotherhood who now slaughter African Blacks Christians & Jews at will. The USA is now in harms way, just Obama has ordained. My point is, when will the Republicans start to effectively begin to really take Obama down, or will they just whimp out and take whatever crumbs Obama, the hater & destroyer of the USA gives them!!!

Read the article folks,

these are campaign manager types (managers, spin doctors, surrogates etc.)

They are looking at the money and the ground troups. Romney has those and most other candidates do not.

Also think Decathalon. Romney has been steady while other candidates flare and fade. (bachman, perry)

then we also have the go nowhere candidates of huntsman, santorum, and johnson.

There fore it is LIKELY but nobody said certain.

In NY the GOP spends much more time destroying Conservative candidates. TEA folk are not welcome around the rinos.

The National GOP will take out Mr. Cain if He becomes a pain, just watch. It's Romneys turn, just like Bob Dole, John Mclame and Bush 1

Well then the establishment geniuses must know that romney will lose to zero. And even if romney wins, they know that the GOP will fall apart. Wow, real smart because romney will not turn things around with more statism and the GOP will take the fall.

The really interesting thing is that Republican and Democrat insiders agree that Romney would be the 'strongest' candidate.

Tells you all you need to know--about the insiders in question.

It's long past time for some outsiders to come in and really shake things up in DC...

Romney, McConnel, Bohner, Obama. How do we tell the difference?

Obama or Romney, either way it will be the end of the GOP.

He could have some trouble with the magic underpants.””

I think he is going to have more trouble with the miles of video tape from his past, where he supports the Brady Law against the 2nd Amendment without any changes-—whee he supports Roe vs Wade-—where he created Romneycare & such care applies to illegals without any cost to them.....

There is a long list of his transgressions against Conservatives & smaller government.. I don’t hink Mitt can hide that long list for the next 12 +++ months successfully.

I really am not listening to the ‘GOP strategists”. The more they say to push a particular candidate, the more I look elsewhere. I don’t trust the “GOP’ anymore.
