Herman Cain raises $3 million in October, Mark Block reports
Politico ^ | 28 Oct 2011 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Herman Cain has raised more than $3 million in the month of October, campaign strategist Mark Block told CNN. Continue Reading

"It’s over $3 million," Block said in an interview with Erin Burnett. "We’re well over 65,000 [donors.] So we’ve actually doubled in little over a month. That’s what we’re seeing in our grassroots activism growth and obviously in the YouTube thing."

The "YouTube thing" refers, of course, to this.

Cain's $3 million intake is more than he raised in the whole third quarter of the year, and gives him resources to spring for paid media and step up his presence in the early primary states. If he wants to do that at some point.

It’s over 9000!

...but seriously, this is great. I’ve tried to make small donations when I can. With any luck, the Cain Train will keep gaining speed.

Not to worry. Cain instinctively has one thing that all the money in the world cannot buy for any candidate, a message that resonates with We The People.

Through 09/30/11 Romney had raised $18,449,060. At that time he was reporting cash on hand at $14,656,966

The FEC report for Cain for 09/30/11 was that he had raised $5,380,841. His cash on hand was $1,333,779.

The Cain camp is reporting $3,000,000+ raised since that time. That is a very significant increase in cash and while much lower over all than Romney, is not “chickenpoop”.

Oh boohoo. I remain unimpressed. Romney now leads in the five states that go first. Cain polls well to be sure. But his 999 is pure fodder for BHO and his endless classwarfare caca. GOP primary voters will most likely go with Romney after the dust is settled. My views are closest to Bachmann’s but I try to look at it realistically.

The GOP almost always goes with the guy who ran before.

While that is true, the sample is painfully small. The modern primary system really began in 1972, and soldified in 1980 ('76 just introduced matching funds, and caucuses, favorite son candidates and uncommitted slates were FAR more common). Among 'pubbies, once we take out contests where there is an incumbent ('72, '76, '84, '92, '04), that only leaves us with FOUR (count 'em) examples. Out of those four, only three (Reagan ['80], Dole ['96], McCain ['08]) had run before. Of those three, only TWO had placed in the previous cycle. Pat Buchanan placed in '92, and even won NH and several other states in '96. In the case of Dole and McCain, I would argue that the field was VERY weak in both years because some of the top tier candidates decided not to run, only to lose to Clinton or Obama. Of course, in 2000, Bush the Younger had never even run before, much less placed. One could say, yeah, but he started out with high name recognition and raised a boatload of money. So he did. However, once you start carving out those kinds of exceptions, you cease having a reliable rule.

So, is having placed before an advantage? Yes. Is it insurmountable? Not in the least. We could also use the same "Republicans tend to nominate ..." argument against the possibility of a northeasterner getting the nod. (Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush the Elder, Dole, Bush the Younger, McCain. Not a single NEterner. You could maintain that Bush the Elder was culturally Yankee (and so he was). How'd that work out for him?

I don’t like the Rush ads or that one with the guy smoking... seriously Cain needs to hire better ad people.

Perry’s ads rock, it’s a shame he is such a flawed candidate.

Maybe Cain could hire Perry’s ad people :)

I want to see some other polls to see how Romeny and Cain do in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida. I know the CNN/Time poll is showing Romeny leading. But I really want to see other polls as well. I understand Romeny has a big lead in NH, close to his base. But Romney is leading by 3 in SC? Hard to believe.

I should mention that I am also not counting ‘88, as Bush the Elder was the sitting VP for a popular incumbent. If you really want George the Elder included, that makes it four out of five, not three out of four.

General....please refer to my post #8 and answer my question.

It has almost been one hour and I have not yet heard your response; meanwhile, you have responded to other Freepers, who have posted subsequent to my question to you.

I realize your staff is probably overburdened with other important stuff to do, but you made the assertion...now back it up!

Perry needs good ad people, because I saw the live announcement of “Cut, Balance, and Grow”, and it was, in a word, awful. The ad people made it look 10,000 times better than it was Live.

(And don’t forget the smoking man thing was not an ad — it was a message to Cain supporters, sent out via email, that ended up going viral and getting air time that was not the original intent.)

My guess would be that Cain will use a combination of conventional and unconventional ads at some point. Some people need a polished and professional ad because those ads will be all they see of candidates. Some people don’t do any of their own homework when it comes to elections. So some polished and professional ads will be a wise investment. But the “We The People” stuff seems to be working pretty good so far as well.

This is really frustrating a wysiwyg editor for FR would help... FR is mangling the links. *sigh* I hate having to guess how FR is going to change it.

I agree that at this point the best ads in the world are not going to help Perry, but I still think Cain needs to up his game in the ad area.
