Would seem to be much easier for the government to just refuse to register the objectionable name. The parents can call him whatever they want, but his legal name will be George or some other innocuous name assigned at random.

Must have read that more than 40 years ago, and it still strikes me as funny.
There should exist a Federal list of names which can never be registered on a birth certificate in the US—kind of like with license plates—but it should consist of reason and logic and be very limited. The CPS should never have been allowed in the home, if no other abuse was noted.

If the parents are abusive, that should be proven in court. The government does not get to tell us what to name or not name our kids. That goes for Moon Unit, Dweezil, Mohammed, and LaTrina as well.

My Grandfather was a card carrying Communist in the 1930s and named my Uncle Joseph Stalin Reynolds. He never used his middle name and became a stanch Republican. Adolph is an old German name The Hitler part the boy will just drop or just use the H. One Italian Boy was named Benito Mussolini -— He dropped the Middle name-—
What about all the kids named Jesus? or Mohammed? Or Alexander? A silly reason to get involved in a family life.
