CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley spoke with chief Washington correspondent and "Face the Nation" anchor Bob Schieffer, about the Herman Cain phenomenon. A transcript follows.
Pelley: Bob, I wonder how seriously should we take the Cain campaign?
Schieffer: I think it has to be taken very seriously at this point, Scott, and here's why. Think about this: Mitt Romney has been plodding along at about 25 percent in the polls and it's like he's been running most of his life. Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, gets into the race, zooms immediately to the top in the polls, has a couple of stumbles, and goes back down.
But then you take Herman Cain, who has no real campaign staff, has not raised very much money -- some people weren't even sure he was serious about this. He's gotten in, he makes a couple stumbles, and he keeps going up. Somehow or the other, Herman Cain is connecting with a big segment of Republican voters right now and that's why he can no longer be ignored.

Isn’t it time for Bob Schieffer to be put out to pasture? This guy has been around since Nixon was president and he’s been a liberal moron in all that time.
Guess he'll have to be smeared. Wonder what Anita Hill is up to these days...
I don’t usually do stuff like this but - I’m getting a black hat like his favorite one. Hopefully they aren’t selling out already. Anyone with me?
Gotta be a fly in the ointment....or as the Democrat smear machine would say, a pub*c hair. And if there is not, they'll put one there.
I wish Nixon were still around to share his thoughts. He was a smart dude and an awesome American.
Yer too late!
“Guess he’ll have to be smeared”
Yep, the msm has already started the smear campaign against Rubio in case he was thinking about VP slot. Just pathetic.
I'm told that she's assistant provost at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
Nixon=EPA Pox on him.
Of course. Acadamia: the last bastion of washed up leftist fodder.
Mr. Price Controls? Just another RINO.
Cain was actually 3rd in this pre-Ames poll at 10%. Notice, in this screenshot, who Schieffer's "Face the Nation" didn't include:
Don’t forget the Endangered Species Act. . .
When Bob Schieffer and CBS decided to exert editorial control over their “reporting” the actual facts of The Des Moines Register’s poll, they ceased to be journalists and crossed the bright line into being propagandists, into shaping and controlling the news.
I’ve got that hat!! Husband bought it on a trip to Branson.Said he thought western hats were sexy.He saw Cain last night and said hey he’s got your hat.I plan to wear it till the one true conservative gets the nomination.BTW, I think he’s a handsome man and hubby is right, that hat is darn sexy.

That right there is my new favorite pic of Cain. He is the man of the hour, and more people are figuring it out by the day—scratch that, I meant by the minute.
That must be why Schieffer said Cain can ‘no longer be ignored’. He’s admitting he tried to ignore him, but Cain thwarted Schieffer’s plans.
White liberals worst nightmare. An educated black man with the potential of a Cuban VP.
And both are Conservative.
It’s getting good.
Bob is up from his nap...
Now that you mention it, I have a hat like that here somewhere. I do believe I will hunt it up and wear it. Thank you
Amen! Anybody who thinks Obama, the MSM and all the other liberals aren’t scared witless of Cain just has not been paying attention. Cain is fearless and even less unPC than Howard Stern [w’out the vulgarity]. He can say things to and about Obama no other candidate in the field can. If he ever debates Obama, Little Barry will be too busy stuttering and listening to his earbud to get in a word edgewise. Cain would win the general in a landslide—and deep down in their hearts the liberals know it.
C-SPAN had her on recently. I immediately changed the channel when I saw she was on, but I assume it had to do with the 20th anniversary of her attacks on Clarence Thomas.
