That’s because New York officials can deny concealed-carry permits on a case-by-case basis, whereas many other states — South Dakota, for example — don’t put much stock in such scrutiny.

Turning non-discrimination and equal protection of the law into the the naivete of flyover-country rubes -- in one sentence. J-school really instills some skills, you betcha.

Not to speak of all the liberal politicians and Hollywood stars who have armed guards with them wherever they go.

Where I live I do not always feel so secure with out a fire arm.

When I was younger there were occasionally packs of feral dogs that roamed the rural area where I cared for my grandmother’s property. So I would open carry when working outside.

Now recently I have found bear tracks on my property and this is only semi-rural. We also have coyote in the area.

I don’t so much fear the feral two legged animals here so much but I think it may be reasonably cautious to go armed to protect myself from the 4 legged variety.

Dems were NOT 'reluctant' to cross the NRA ---dems discovered they LOST voters over the issue - and dropped it like a hot potato...

For the Lefties it is the same thing.

For those on the Left if you vote pro-gun you are an NRA member or sympathetic with the NRA. For them it is black and white.

Pro-gun=NRA

Pro-gun control=reasonable and logical

The Left does not believe in personal protection. For them no one should have to protect themselves if we just get the guns off the streets nobody will need to protect themselves. They believe that the State has a total monopoly on lethal force at all times; Individuals must always defer to the state the use of arms.

For the Left individuals going about armed is an invitation to chaos and the old West depicted in spaghetti Westerns.

If it were enacted, off to New York the South Dakotan tourist could go, 9-millimeter Glock in tow.

That’s not liberty. More like lunacy.

No. That's liberty, you commie chump. It's the New Yorker who presently lives in lunacy!

The highest priority in my life right now is grabbing my .45 and heading to New York City once that law passes.

Actually, Carl Rowan’s ‘unregistered’ gun was registered, except it was registered to his son who was an FBI agent. Daddy ‘borrowed’ the revolver from his son that he used to shoot the intruder on his property. Neither Rowan nor his son were prosecuted. Everything suddenly dropped off the official radar. Surprise, surprise.

I generall carry a .40 and feel pretty safe pretty much anywhere but the new 9mm rounds are pretty good. My wife’s 9mm holds a slew of rounds and is loaded with Federal HST 147gr. I would not want to be shot with one of those.

My opinion of the .38 (special) is that it is a pretty light load for a goblin stopper.

Regardless, however, of impact energy, shot placement counts, too.

If you find the .38 more comfortable to shoot and can put it in a half dollar sized spot with good consistency from 15 to 25 feet (which is normal gunfight range), and can get a second shot on target rapidly or engage multiple targets in rapid succession with similar accuracy, you are part way to where you need to be defensively.

Most of the rest is mental. (Situational awareness, avoiding problems by seeing them coming and getting out of the situation before it becomes critical, and being willing to shoot without hesitation when you need to).

Some of it is practice and tactical development (movement, concealment, cover, developing muscle memory to draw your weapon and fire on target--because if you have to think about it once you reach the 'go' point, you may be too late.)

That all said, a .38 on target is better than a .45 that goes wide. Since you are best off practicing with the pistol you'll carry, and the loads you will have in it, .38 ammo has a small advantage in being relatively cheap, too.

Generally, I'd consider using the hardest-hitting round you can comfortably and accurately shoot, but even a .25 auto is better than nothing.

Given the necessity to go about unarmed, I would rather be unarmed in North Dakota than New York.

Virtually nobody is unarmed in North Dakota - and the crime rate is zilch.

9-millimeter Glock in tow.

That's likely the only weapon (well, that and the AK47) that this bedwetter knows.
