Even though Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal just won re-election in a landslide victory, there is a growing rumbling of discontent statewide among conservatives. While Jindal is being touted nationwide as the next great hope for the Republican Party, there are folks in Louisiana who would beg to differ. How can that be with such an overwhelming mandate? In last week's election, Jindal carried all 64 of Louisiana's parishes. What could be wrong?
Conservative discontent with Jindal centers around several issues including his bungled handling of a legislative pay raise in 2008; his sham ethics reform; and now his alignment with 37-year Democrat (and recent Republican) John Alario, whom Jindal has endorsed for President of the State Senate, to name a few.
When Bobby Jindal ran for his first term in 2007, he issued this promise:
Prohibit Legislators from giving themselves pay raises that take effect before the subsequent elections.
Any increase in salary approved by the Legislature should take effect after the next election so the public can decide who deserves that compensation.
That promise quickly crumbled in 2008, when the Louisiana legislature voted itself a huge pay raise from $16,800 a year to $37,500. The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana called the pay raise "absurd":
The $34,000 proposed pay raise for legislators is absurd. The increase would bring Louisiana legislators' compensation to $70,000, which is 198 percent of the average pay for part-time legislatures across the nation and 102 percent of the average pay for full-time legislatures - including per diem amounts and expense allowances.
Not bad money for a part-time job. The Louisiana legislature meets for only about three months a year. To make matters worse, the bill would grant automatic pay raises in the future without legislative or voter approval.

Not sure what to make about Jindal supporting Alario. There are no quotes/comments from Jindal in the piece...so his side isn't really given.

RE: Jindal may run for senate sometime, but he knows he is not even close to being natural born.
Is there a constitutional requirement for a Senator to be natural born?
LA has one party rule like most other Southern states. I guess some people just can’t be happy the Democrats were run out of New Orleans.
If Jindal was half as bad as his critics say, he would not have carried every parish in the state.
However, I think he might get tapped as HHS secretary..and he'd do a superb job..but not sure if he wants to leave LA right now..
You have to be natural born to be President and Vice President.
Every other elective and appointive federal office is open to all American citizens, native born and naturalized, alike.
Sounds to this poster, like one of the potential VP candidates, just hired Karl Rove.
Miss read my statement, I said he may run for senate, he does not meet the requirements for higher elected office. I believe he has already said that himself.
Not being from Louisiana, I don’t know all the ins and outs of the state laws. So, if the Legislature votes themselves a pay raise, what would it take for Jindal to stop it? I guess I’m trying to figure out why conservatives would be blaming him for that situation.

He was natural born.. So yes he can run for President..
The natural born rule no longer applies. Jindal can run for prez if he wants to because obama was seated.
Man, obummers mother was a citizen. And yes the law still applies, but you need to contest before the vote, not after.
First of all, the demmicrats are still running New Orleans. Jindal is a lieing SOS. He is a RINO and is only interested in keeping his name in the papers to inflate his ego.
He carried all the parishes because the other 9 people were unknowns and didn’t have the money to compete. All the major rags supported him. Check the DEADPELICAN.com for more info on Mr. Jindal.
Legislatures (state and federal) could be part-time jobs with 1/10th pay, NO retirement, NO insurance, NO benefits and NO perks. These POS politicians can get a full time job doing something productive not progressive.
Their part-time job could be spent DEFUNDING/DISMANTLING socialist collectives, foreign and domestic (our government in particular).
