(CNSNews.com) Making a case for national gun registration, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said perhaps mistakes were made in the botched gun-walking program known as Fast and Furious, but she said trying to assign blame misses the larger problem.
This is a deep concern for me. I know others disagree, but we have very lax laws when it comes to guns, Feinstein, an advocate of gun control, said during Tuesday's hearing of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism.
My concern, Mr. Chairman, is that theres been a lot said about Fast and Furious, and perhaps mistakes were made, Feinstein said. But I think this hunt for blame doesnt really speak about the problem. And the problem is, anybody can walk in and buy anything.
In Operation Fast and Furious, a Justice Department program that began in September 2009, law enforcement knowingly allowed about 2,000 U.S. guns to flow to Mexican drug cartels, with the intent of tracking the weapons and making arrests. However, law enforcement lost track of most of the weapons. The program was halted in December 2010 after two weapons from the program were found at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, head of the Justice Departments criminal division, revealed Monday that he knew about Operation Fast and Furious going back to April 2010, but did not inform Attorney General Eric Holder about the matter.
Feinstein asked Breuer about the number of U.S. guns in Mexico.
From my understanding, 94,000 weapons have been recovered in the last five years in Mexico. Those are just the ones recovered, Senator, Breuer said. Of the 94,000 weapons that have been recovered from Mexico, 64,000 of those are traced to the United States. We have to do something to prevent criminals from getting those guns, Feinstein said.
Then she asked Breuer, Do you believe that if there were some form of registration when you purchase these firearms that would make a difference?
I do, Senator, Breuer said, adding that information is the tool we need to challenge the people that are committing this crime.
"Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe."

Yes, that Dianne Feinstein.
Of course, when it comes to royalty, the rules change.
"Because less than twenty years ago I was the target of a terrorist group. It was the New World Liberation Front. They blew up power stations and put a bomb at my home when my husband was dying of cancer. And the bomb didn't detonate. ... I was very lucky. But, I thought of what might have happened. Later the same group shot out all the windows of my home.""And, I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself because that's what I did. I was trained in firearms. I'd walk to the hospital when my husband was sick. I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me."
Diane Feinstein, April 27, 1995
Classic hypocrital dem elitist.
No, Di-Di, we have lax enforcement when it comes to GOVERNMENT AGENTS OBEYING THE LAW.
If obama gets another 4 - you better believe he’s going to crack down on guns. If for no other reason, I will vote for Perry as a Second Amendment rights protector if he’s still standing.
Well, for starters you could fire Holder.
“And the problem is, anybody can walk in and buy anything”
Her lies are endless.
They continue by insisting there was an intent to track the F&F weapons.
No such effort was ever made.
Di Fi Redux:
It was good for me BUT...
No, Nancy, we have very specific laws regarding trafficing guns in this country.
Enforce them, and prosecute those who violate them!
California already requires handgun and assault weapon registration and will start long gun registration Jan 2014.
The problem originates with the beginning of one of her statements: “From my understanding, ...” No, she doesn’t understand anything except her need for power.
There, fixed it.
The relevant point is that these sales would never have been made without the extra-legal involvement of law enforcement. There was no problem with the law. Anybody can walk in and buy anything only with the connivance of a compromised federal agent.
Some people wonder why it took so long to give women the right to vote.
The very reason BOY ZERO changed tactics from Bush operations was to usurp the second amendment and therfore should be tried for sedition and treason... Boy Zero talked this over with James Brady and told him how he was going to usurp the Second Amendment. Disarm The American public was the plan all along.
No, Senator Dipstick, only when the ATF tells the dealer to sell is the system subverted. How absolutely over-the-top for you to try to play out the end-game of this fraud.
If for no other reason, I will vote for Perry I’d for for a mules behind before I would vote for obama.
Of the 94,000 weapons that have been recovered from Mexico, 64,000 of those are traced to the United States. “
?
I’ve complied with just about all the “gun laws” I’m going to. Anything further restricting my Rights will be ignored.
Just as soon as Diane Finestein has personally registered the 1000 plus weapons the Justice Department let walk to the Sinola Cartel, I will register my weapons!
I will pay her airfair to Sinola State.
Rule #1: never let the government know where all the guns are!
Keep in mind that the reason the British headed to Concord was to sieze the store of arms to nip the colonial rebellion in the bud.
“Then she asked Breuer, Do you believe that if there were some form of registration when you purchase these firearms that would make a difference?”
Really, based on what some WAG? Prove this to be correct Mr. Breuer. In fact what does registration of firearms have to do with them finding their way to Mexico.
BTW, if any of you assholes is planning on requiring a registration of firearms by me with a fee attached on some yearly or any other basis, come and get it.
and Government managers being weasles and slimebags..
a hole POS POTUS reign of BS doesn’t look like he will let go of power..I’ll be surprised if there is not a coup before the election...I hope all are ready..
I’m very sorry that the bomb didn’t go off and kill that harridan.
a hole POS POTUS reign of BS doesnt look like he will let go of power..Ill be surprised if there is not a coup before the election...I hope all are ready..
I am
Dianne Feinstein is a Democrat in the tradition of Lester Maddox, working overtime to take away the civil rights of the people.
Thank God!!! I am with ya..
“anybody can walk in and buy anything”
Sure, if the government orders the gunseller to ignore the fact that the buyer should not be buying those guns. My gosh these people are disgusting.
I don’t care if the registration is free. I ain’t complying.
Yeah, I kind of glossed over what you are saying, no way I will comply with such crap either.
Didn’t Ms. Dianne Feinstein make a ‘straw purchase’ a few years back? Something about the rifle being a gift for her son.
Thank you for those quotes. Just pasted this into my facebook page, along with the link to the article.
bump
Looks like she is going to try and do all the legislative damage as she can before she loses her Senate seat next year in the election...... look out for the democrats to do and try that, because they have nothing to lose. Political Kamikazes
SJackson ? She has nothing to lose now, she is going to lose her seat in next year’s election..... we need to warn everyone about this, the Democrats are going to go on a Kamikaze legislative free for all.
BTTT
” - - - Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said perhaps mistakes were made - - - “
The US Federal Government ALWAYS makes “mistakes,” so leave OUR Constitution alone, because we do not trust anyone in the Legislature Branch.
Registration is a bigtime concern. What also concerns me is consolidation of ownership of the firearm manufacturers via holding companies which could easily lead to a back door gun control policy of rationing, shortages and price increases.
When one entity owns the firearms companies we will have gun control. Business with competition is what capitalism is about. Not big financial conglomerates that can easily be bought off by politicians and gun control interests.
The problem is, any idiot can get elected to congress and try to subvert the constitution.
The problem is, the ATF and the attorney general are out of control.
The problem is, the federal government is not adequately controlling the border.
THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED
Madam Senator neither you or anyone else has the constitutional authority to enact any gun laws. If you want to restrict gun ownership pass a constitutional amendment, if you can. Otherwise you have no authority to pass such laws.
This was the plan all along. The purpose of Fast and Furrious. It doesn't matter that their criminal actions have been discovered. Socialist like Fineswine make their own reality and the sheeple of America follow.
Will the Republicans use Fast and Furrious to reform or even abolish the BAFTE? No, because it is the Stupid Party.
So, this woman wants to have national registration even though the only way Fast & Furious could work or even happen was for a shop owner to VIOLATE THE LAW AND DO SO WHILE ACTING ON THE BEHEST OF LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Isn't this lying bastard under oath?
When does his prosecution start?
No.
That was Sarah Brady:
Diane, why don’t you and John McCain just go away.
I wouldn’t be surprised if those numbers weren’t pretty close. Of course, our government has sold or given truckloads of military rifles to the Mexican government for distribution to their military. With the problems they have keeping the armory doors locked, many - if not most - of those “legal” arms have found their way to the cartels. Hence the high numbers.
“And the problem is, anybody can walk in and buy anything”
Yeh its called a free country.
