When Teens Attack

My wife and I have different perspectives on the youth violence epidemic that currently plagues our urban neighborhood. She thinks some of the miscreants could be helped by more targeted after-school programs staffed by caring adults. I think there are plenty after-school programs and, besides, the teens perpetrating the violence, often after 11 p.m., are not the sort of individuals who would attend after-school programs. I believe more extreme measures are in order. The back-story: since early summer, packs of up to a dozen young teenagers have been accosting random middle-aged or elderly males in an attempt to knock them out with a single blow to the head. At least seven such attacks have occurred in our part of town. One elderly Vietnamese immigrant has already died as a result. Last week, the mayor of St. Louis, Francis Slay, drove up as a group of young thugs was strolling casually away after one such assault. This week, seven juveniles, mostly between the ages of 13-14, were arrested for two separate incidents.

It is little wonder teens are indifferent to violence when they are repeatedly assured that their vicious behavior is not their fault. Blame a lack of hula-hoops and Frisbee golf. Blame a lack of finger painting classes.

THE NOTION THAT city kids could be so bored they would be driven to kill random strangers strikes me as incredible, to say the least. It is a well-known stereotype that rural teens have little to do but drink booze on country roads and perhaps tip over cows. However, it was a surprise for me to learn that city kids were similarly bored. After all, they live in the big city.

I am disgusted by the political correctness of American Spectator. It is too dainty to mention that the perpetrators are black teens and that their targets are usually non-black. Since the attacks are partly motivated by racial hatred, this hatred needs to be confronted to stop future attacks.

If police and elected officials do not deal with this problem, eventually others will. Our first black president could show some leadership and condemn such attacks, but I don't think he is interested.

England’s own Theodore Dalrymple has written extensively on this same phenomenon in the towns of Britain. ONe can assume it’s an all-black thang around here, but the same pathologies are lily-white over there.

Yes. It’s sadism mixed with racism, and those kids need to be punished. (Honestly, I think they are probably beyond redemption, but my opinion of humanity has sunk pretty low over the years, so I’m pessimistic.)

Of course you are absolutely right. Until we can finally say what we all know to be reality things will not improve. I say this not in an offensive manner, but the Black community is profoundly sick and has been for a long time. When 70%+ of all Black births are to unwed mothers, something is wrong. When Black mothers have multiple children by multiple fathers, something is wrong. When violence becomes an accepted part of the Black culture (it's a Black thing), you have a problems.

Of course these issues occur outside of the Black community, but it is far more pronounced in the Black community. Now, throw in Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright and other Black “leaders” telling angry Blacks that all their ills are the result of White racism, well you have just thrown gasoline on a very combustible problem. On top of that, add in White liberals and the corrupt MSM validating that racism is the reason for Black ailments and you have cemented your fate.

I am quite certain that this is going to get far, far worse and that the violence is going to grow markedly unless something very dramatic happens to turn it around. I think we are heading to a tipping point where open violence will become the new norm. Unless something significant happens in the heart of the Black community, this will not end well.

Another recent example occurred a few days ago when my daughter, her husband and their 2 year old were driving home from the zoo in upstate NY. Someone threw a brick at their GMC Acadia, putting a large dent between the 2 back windows. A few inches to the left or right and it would have smashed through a window possibly hitting my grandson or daughter. There were some underpriviledged yoots nearby who coincidentally vanished when the car stopped. The cops investigating the incident said there had been several similar attacks in the same area. I did alot of stupid s*** when I was a teen but nothing that could possibly kill someone. Even a teen knows that pitching a brick at a car traveling at 40 mph is potentially fatal.

These kids have nothing to live for. Their lives are a burden. There are no adults in their lives who give a flying flip about them, the adults are into sex, booze and drugs. There are no jobs for these kids, so they steal for spending money.

The hope is lost, the change is for the worse. The answer is God, but that is not an easy or convenient answer, especially when the adults are depraved.

Back to the good old days of the tribal wife. Family and the lack thereof is the problem. That and the fact that when people have to work to feed themselves they often come home too tired to walk around aimlessly trying to find a suitable stranger to punch in the head.
