DES MOINES, Iowa - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann is telling college students in politically important Iowa that all Americans should pay taxes since they all benefit from services such as roads and bridges, national defense and the courts. Her position, which she was outlining today at Iowa State University in Ames, is a direct challenge to rivals Rick Perry and Herman Cain, who are advocating plans that would allow low-wage earners to continue paying no taxes while implementing a form of a flat tax on all other workers. The Tax Policy Center estimates that some 46 percent of households this year will not pay federal income taxes.

She’s absolutely right. God required everyone pay 10%-both rich and poor. And He’s a lot smarter than our politicians.
thanks. I was wondering how long before he appeared.
Michele who?
I know I should recognize the name...
For once she opens her mouth and does NOT sound like a friggin’ moron.
And I agree with her.
So does Herman Cain. This is why he has a 9% sales tax in his plan. And many FReepers can’t stop whining about that.
and even if those taxes are used to buy obama’s books and pass around
Yeah, silly whiners complaining about giving the feds the ability to tax everything we buy. What a bunch of simps! TAX TEA NOW! And everything else! Yay!
“Vote for me so I can raise your taxes.” Well that should send her poll numbers soaring.
Yeah, I hear you. But, at least the sales tax forces the freeloaders to ante up to some extent.
“But, at least the sales tax forces the freeloaders to ante up to some extent.”
Exactly. Why should my family have to pay more to offset the money not paid by a drug dealer? Or a fisherman who cooks the books so he can work under the table? Or a stripper who takes in $1000 a night, but claims $40?
Everybody pays a truly fair tax.
The only reason I’m cool with 999 being 909 for the lower income households is that it’s the only thing that’ll pass.
Ridiculous. There would be "prebates", credits, exemptions, etc. It's totally insane to think it is a panacea. It's just a new mode of taxation.
It is funny, though. The Tea Party wants to tax tea. I mean, you can't make this stuff up. 9-9-9 is worse than the Townsend Acts for crying out loud. But it's funny.
Tax Everything Already--Herman Cain's version of the Tea Party platform. And people buy in! Surreal.
“... provided that any person who does not pay federal income taxes does not get to vote in federal elections. After all, if you’ve got nothing in the game, why should you have any voice in how the game is played?”
Agreed.
It used to be that only land owners should vote. It was that way for a reason.
Sooner or later the issue of millions not paying any federal income taxes MUST be addressed. Better do it now, while we at least have 50% paying taxes. If it gets to 40% paying taxes, the country is doomed. Should we let poll numbers cause us to accede a to socialist, collectivist nation?
EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN SHOULD PAY TAXES!
When my wife and I were in college (we came out with NO debt!) I earned $200 a month. I paid $5 a month federal income tax. We lived on $195 a month--and paid tuition out of that!
It was starvation wages. We slept on naked springs supported by concrete blocks--cooked on a hot plate.
This was hard for me. I was from a dirt-poor family and was mighty tired of poverty! My wife was from a very rich family--accustomed to luxury, and certainly not to poverty--and we received no help from her family (who didn't like me and resented our circumstances) (frankly I didn't blame them).
We managed.
I was a millionaire at age 40--
A multimillionaire at age 43!
The reason: SELF-RELIANCE!
When Leftist Jackasses start talking to me about the need for government handouts--THEY ARE TALKING TO THE WRONG PERSON!
Everyone should pay taxes.
In a fair America, if you take government handouts you should lose the right to vote while doing so.
Simple as that.
The good news is 9-9-9 has no shot at all. It’s absolutely toxic to normal people. The bad news is that if Cain wins the nomination, and sticks with this plan, Obama has a GOOD chance of reelection.
