Boehner: Debt deal will include new tax revenues
CBS NEWS ^ | November 3,2011

Posted on 11/03/2011 4:25:58 PM PDT by Hojczyk

"I think there is room for revenues, but I think there clearly is a limit to the amount of revenues that are available," Boehner told reporters.

"What I was attempting to do," he said, grinning, "was to suggest that Mr. Norquist, like millions of Americans, believes that raising taxes is not good for our economy."

Boehner insisted that Republicans would only compromise on tax revenue if Democrats were willing to take significant and painful steps to shore up Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. "Without real reform on the entitlement side, I don't know how you put any revenue on the table."

"I didn't agree to set this thing up with any idea that it wouldn't succeed," he said. "And I've been clear with everyone through this process that we have to meet the goal. I'd love to exceed the goal. But we have to meet the goal and I'm going to put every effort in to make sure that we do."

So what's holding up the talks? "It's the same conversation that's been going on all year," Boehner said. "They want more revenue than what we're willing to give, and they're not willing to do as much entitlement reform as we'd like to do." He indicated that he has been heavily involved in the minutiae of debt negotiations. "There's all kinds of discussions and permutations and models. I've seen more models than I can count about how you can do this. A lot of possibilities

"Only tax paying citizens and veterans are enfranchised in the new Republic."

Most of the "tax paying citizens" get their incomes directly or indirectly (services, contractors, etc.) from the various levels of government. Big revenues into 'em, little revenues out. That's no way to have an economy that will continue.

On to default. Starve the b.

It will be taxes now and spending cuts in 2050

Or like every other "deal", taxes now and spending cuts never.

Reagan fell for it.
Bush 41 fell for it.
Never again.

I'll make this deal: tax increases across the board (i.e. everyone is affected, not just the "rich"). I'll even offer a number: a 10% increase.

The catch? Two of them, actually:

  1. A balanced budget amendment.
  2. A separate amendment limiting federal spending to 20% of GDP.

When those amendments are ratified and enabling legislation is enacted and implemented now (not some time in the future), I'll consider a tax increase.

"Fire every single one of these clowns and start from scratch.

Provisional military government for 6 months, then new elections for all congressional seats and the WH, incumbents need not apply, strict term limits.

Only tax paying citizens and veterans are enfranchised in the new Republic.

All amendments other than the original bill of rights are repealed."

YOU'VE GOT MY VOTE ! “Dueling” legalized within Washington DC limits.

Problem solved

Republicans are tax-hiking lefties, because that’s what their most influential constituents want. It comes with “progressivism” (feminism, etc.). Stop personal spending. Become more independent. Starve the b.

Wow. Talk about lose-lose. The Republicans will blow off their base by agreeing to Democrat tax hikes while at the same time taking the blame for forcing cuts in medicare and social security.

How in God’s name can Republican “leaders” be
so
freaking
stupid?

I never have a good feeling when I know Boehner’s in on the deal.

We need a new Speaker desparately. And a new Senate Majority Leader.

If the GOP succumbs to this, they are dead.

No one liked this super committee in the first place.

This is the reason why.

Boehner should step down. He is useless.

Exactly! He using the word “revenues” instead of “taxes”. You know which side he’s on. Will we ever have control of the Republican party?

Fire every single one of these clowns and start from scratch.

We say this every year before the election and then when the election comes around everyone is like we HAVE to elect the Republican who is on the ballot. It is an endless cycle......until we get serious and seriously vote these folks out we will just complain and complain but do nothing to really get rid of people.
