Many Rich Chinese Consider Leaving

By JEREMY PAGE

BEIJING—More than half of China's millionaires are either considering emigrating or have already taken steps to do so, according to a survey that builds on similar findings earlier this year, highlighting worries among the business elite about their quality of life and financial prospects, despite the country's fast-paced growth.

The U.S. is the most popular emigration destination, according to the survey of 980 Chinese people with assets of more than 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) published on Saturday by Bank of China and wealth researcher Hurun Report.

While growth has slowed, China's economic performance is still the envy of the Western world: It registered annual gross domestic product growth of 9.1% in the third quarter, and the International Monetary Fund has forecast growth of 9.5% for all of 2011.

WE are so spoiled in the USA. When I was in Korea many years back, I’d give my houseboy my whiskey allocation and he’d sell in on blk market, make 50 bucks profit per fifth, usually 5 bottles a month. He would always invite me out his house in this rural village 8 miles from our base to eat just spend time with his family; was a good guy actually and I was glad to see him make a few bucks. He introduced me to the papa san of his village. This guy had pretty much accumulated all the wealth in that village, owned most the houses, ect. Yet, he was still stuck in that 3rd world country rice village. He didn’t have the opportunity we have in the USA or he’d been rich in 1 year starting from nothing. I guarantee these type immigrants be all Repubs.

I’d think the small business-types are; often the children are quickly assimilated (turned liberal).

My kids tell me all the kids at their schools (UAF & UAA) are dems too. Mine ain't cause I fill out their absentee ballots and I know. My boy says they are all so stupid and know so little about the real world. One summer one of his girlfriends came up for a few days to visit him. Her parents and this girl had actually been to Obama rallies, unreal. I tried to argue with her but she wouldn't give me the pleasure.

But ya know what? I remember when I went to PSU in early 70's right at the end of Vietnam War. I knew this one girl who was off the deep end on war protests, hippie girl, goofy. I knew her dad and he was way cool and very conservative; George Wallace conservative. I use to think, man if he only knew who she was running around with and dope, ect; he's kill her. Anyway, 20 years later I see this same girl was running for judge as a repub, ha ha. So I figure many kids just have to grow on up, they just don't naturally see things like many people on FR do, no joke.

I’ve seen the story on here several times, and a friend’s daughter just had a similar epiphany - their first paycheck. She had mapped out exactly how much she’d earn by multiplying hours worked by hourly wage, and was shocked to see she didn’t get 100% of her earnings.

There is hope.

(Anyone who dates a girl who supported Obama doesn’t deserve an absentee ballot)

: )

I didn't say he married her, she was keeping the boy amused for a semester. I see all the girls he has, heck this old timer is jealous as sin.

I married a dem girl from a dem family of coal miners back east. Been married for 27 years, and have a wife who has been a Repub the entire time. Oh I still argue with her brothers the same way I have my entire life about politics. Funny thing is now my brother-in-law's daughter just got married. Married this guy she worked with, both are biologists for some company, majority of their work is for our military. Her husband is a Mennonite, ha ha; they wouldn't even allow dancing at the wedding, ha ha; that's quite conservative you know. So I got tons of ammo to unload on my in-laws now that all their kids are becoming Republicans.

“they wouldn’t even allow dancing at the wedding”

That reminds me of an old joke. “Q: Do you know why Baptists only have sex laying down? A: So they could never be accused of dancing.”

I’m just playing; he can date whoever he wants. If his father’s a FReeper he’ll make the right decision when it matters.

There’s girls you date, and girls you marry.

I was at a Turkish party; they dance, but not touching each other.
