Some politicians fear citizens with .50 caliber rifles--and that's a good thing
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 2 November, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

Posted on 11/04/2011 7:20:24 AM PDT by marktwain

Yesterday, in discussing Senator Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) and Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer's continuation of the attempt to exploit "gunwalked" guns for more restrictive firearms regulation, we noted Feinstein's breathless hysteria regarding .50 caliber rifles:

And the problem is anybody can walk in and buy anything, .50 caliber weapons, a sniper weapons, buy them in large amounts, and send them down to Mexico.

As the Sipsey Street Irregulars' Mike Vanderboegh notes, .50 caliber rifles seem to be something of an obsession of hers:

There is one thing that is always fascinating to me about Feinstein. She can't mention gun control without mentioning fifty caliber rifles. I mean she is a monomaniac on the subject. It is obvious that the thought of a projectile which can be fired from a mile away that can penetrate her limousine's armor in some nominal green zone "safe envelope" is the stuff of her nightmares.

She has, in fact, introduced legislation to impose draconian restrictions on .50 caliber rifles and ammunition in the past (are we approaching "the time and place" for her to try again?). Nor is she alone among California's congressional delegation in her terror of these guns. Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) has even specifically mentioned the "limousine-busting" capabilities of .50 caliber projectiles, in an MSNBC hysteria piece years ago:

This kind of weapon can blow up a limousine or a helicopter, can take out a vehicle, armored vehicle, maybe even a mile away. It can shoot through seven buildings!

He does not seem to have outgrown that fear, and still lists more oppressive regulation of .50 caliber guns as a priority on his "issues" (and he has "issues," alright) page:

It is not just .50 caliber rifles of course. What the "elite" really fear is that they may be held accountable for their actions.

Never noting that what she's referring to starts at $2000 and prices move north of $5000 fast. AND she never notes that these things are about 5 feet long and weigh around 30 pounds (supplies not included).

No, she talks like it's $100 and fits in a pocket.

And the problem is anybody can earn money, a week’s pay, thousands of dollars, and send them to down to Mexico. Should we outlaw the dollar?

...oh, wait. I’ve got to stop giving the Marxists new ideas.

You do not want an armed government and an unarmed populace. Then the government becomes the boss, and not the citizens. Our form of government is supposed to be one where the citizens are the boss.

Also sniping at extreme long ranges with heavy-caliber bullets is more analogous to an artillery strike, since it requires coordination with a spotter and “walking” a missed shot onto target. It's both art & science and requires a lot of training & coordination. Beyond what you'd expect for a lone, crazed conservative gunman. And make no mistake, that is what DiFi is thinking about!

I would hope that by “anybody” she’s referring to the chief gunwalker at Justice and his enabler in the WH. Fortunately, Obama’s little under the radar scheme got blown up and Holder is now busy trying to obstruct.

It either takes an idiot or a super-sized set of stones to talk about running US firearms into Mexico after getting caught red handed doing that very thing.

Pathetic is the only term I can think of.

The hoplophobes (actually, plebephobes-afraid of the people) are the best sales and marketing tool for the republic, whether they know it or not.

While the left (defined pragmatically as including much of the curent “right” as well) wants to see more and more “control” descend over the American people, they are actually making it much more unlikley for that to occur in fact.

Pass all the laws you want, enforce them if you can.

The great eventuality remains the Amercian people are the most well-armed society in history.

While in past history great nations fell under tyranny, that happened only after restriction registraion and consfication of the peoples arms-and only after THEY complied.

I do not see that happening in the USA.

It is just not in our collective blood to “slip quitely in the night”. We suck at being shepherded by the few, for the most part.

Shhsh. Don’t tell the leftists that their paranoia and fear of arms “for the peole’s own good” mentality is working (for freedom).

If they would get off the grandstand, quitely tone the anti-gun rhetoric down and let it go, they would be that much more successful-(apathy works) as they were in the 50’s 60s and 70s when a majoprity of Americans held that handgun bans were just fine-during the era of “conservative democratic” rule across the US and most state governments.

I say, lets make them rant. It sells Amercians on gun ownership as a virtue for the cause of freedom.

Molon Labe!!!!

Given the money drug cartels have at their disposal are RPGs out of reach?

BTW: IIRC, RPGs are NFA legal w/$200 tax to BATFE too.

Not at all...

"Grenade-walking" part of "Gunwalker" scandal

Worse Than Gunwalker? State Dept. Allegedly Sold Guns to Zetas

Phil Jordan, a former CIA operative and one-time leader of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s El Paso Intelligence Center, claims that the Obama administration is running guns to the violent Zetas cartel through the direct commercial sale of military grade weapons:

Jordan, who served as director of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s El Paso Intelligence Center in 1995, said the Zetas have shipped large amounts of weapons purchased in the Dallas area through El Paso.

(snip)

“They’ve found anti-aircraft weapons and hand grenades from the Vietnam War era,” Plumlee said. Other weapons found include grenade launchers, assault rifles, handguns and military gear including night-vision goggles and body armor.

If you have connections with the CIA and State Dept. you can get just about anything. Who knows maybe the cartels will start selling some of their surplus and send it north for us bitter clingers.

The bigger danger to tyrants is IEDs and robots. A 2007 Boston advertising campaign with light emitting diodes placed around town ruffled a lot of feathers. A few well placed joke devices would do more psychological damage to their dreams of power than .50 caliber ownership.
