Your Facebook Comments, Coming Soon to a Google Search Near You
By Scott Gilbertson
Nov 3, 2011
Mind what you say in Facebook comments, Google will soon be indexing them and serving them up as part of the companys standard search results. Googles all-seeing search robots still cant find comments on private pages within Facebook, but now any time you use a Facebook comment form on a other sites, or a public page within Facebook, those comments will be indexed by Google.
The new indexing plan isnt just about Facebook comments, but applies to nearly any content thats previously been accessible only through an HTTP POST request. Googles goal is to include anything hiding behind a form comment systems like Disqus or Facebook and other JavaScript-based sites and forms.
Typically when Google announces its going to expand its search index in some way everyone is happy sites get more searchable content into Google and users can find more of what theyre looking for but thats not the case with the latest changes to Googles indexing policy.
Developers are upset because Google is no longer the passive crawler it once was and users will likely become upset once they realize that comments about drunken parties, embarrassing moments or what they thought were private details are going to start showing up next to their names in Googles search results.

FB has always creeped me out. Don’t have one. Don’t want one. If I want to talk to someone, I’ll call them on the phone.
This can’t be too much of a surprise, right?
If it’s on the web, it’s more thank likely searchable.
Just one more reason to leave Social Networks alone. To live your life publicly is a fools endeavor.
I have a FB account but use it just to see where the kids are or what they are up to or to see the pictures..If what you post is just benign, then I don’t see a risk but if you spout political opinions then that is something else..never say anything personally revealing about yourself.
I don't know anything at all about FB but if it is privately owned like FR is, then the owner(s) of it can ban your "freedom of speech" just like the owner of FR can. Private property rights trump your speech rights in cases like that.
Further, I believe that it would take a court order to get the owner of this site to divulge anyone's identity on this site but court orders happen all the time and if they are not obeyed, there are consequences to be paid. That may be the reason that we are warned here about using "threats" or "violence". I have seen one particular threat get people banned from here real quick and that is threatening another poster with a law suit, do that and see how much "freedom of speech" you have.
I use FB for maketing but no longer post much as it appears to me that FB has become an arm of the “Federal Fambly”.
I stopped voicing my political opinions on FB a long while ago for that reason.
Unfortunately, I am one of those who occasionally spouts political opinions. I can’t help it; silence implies consent.
I was like that for a while. Then I got a deranged liberal stalker who figured out the address of my workplace and the name of my boss, and spammed the chat room I was in with the information, along with urgings to others to anonymously contact my boss and try to get me fired. Then it ramped up to remarks about putting a bullet in my head.
Actually, I think a lot of people have basically pulled out of FB. In January, the last entry on my wall was “7 minutes ago”. Recently, it has been running 59 minutes or so and it appears that posting is way down as I am not seeing my old favorite posters very much at all.
It is also one of the most unstable pieces of software I have ever seen. It changes every time I open it up.
HR people, with a very few exceptions, are liberals, “People Persons”.
They may interpret your lack of a facebook account as hiding something or a problem with personal relationships.
Is it just me or has Facebook become boring over the last couple of months?
I haven’t seen anything interesting appear on my wall for a very long time.
My children do access some websites with parental supervision.
I’ve told them all along that when it comes to anything that they put on the internet, it is like writing it on a post-it-note, slapping it up on the wall, and leaving it there until the end of time for all of the world to see.
My son heard this... “If you add up all of the social networking, you end up with, “MY FACE, YOU TWIT!”
He understands the danger.
Why would anyone want to ignore reason and play around with anything that could be potentially stupid and damaging to your future?
I have no desire for the whole world to know anything about me.
Well, if they want to be able to snoop on your personal life, they need to put it on the job posting.
I’m 31 and have absolutely no desire to get into this social aspect of the Internet.
Not my comments.. I don’t use fb for a reason.
Those who post on our FB are not particularly political..in fact most don’t even know who is what...except for those in the fam who voted for the devil in the WH and they don’t read anything, just listen to the View and Oprah..need I say more about them? No I just want to see what they are up to, trips, etc that they take..it is just small talk. The only other FB I read and post on is one that is secure and private among members who have spouses suffering Alzheimer’s Disease.
