Andy Rooney, Mainstay on ‘60 Minutes’, Dead at 92

Andy Rooney, whose prickly wit was long a mainstay of CBS News and whose homespun commentary on “60 Minutes,” delivered every week from 1978 until 2011, made him a household name, died Friday in New York City.

He was 92 and lived in Manhattan, though he kept a family vacation home in Rensselaerville, N.Y., and the first home he ever purchased, in Rowayton, Conn.

CBS News said in a statement that Mr. Rooney died after complications following minor surgery.

In late September, CBS announced that Mr. Rooney would be making his last regular weekly appearance on “60 Minutes” on Oct. 2. After that, said Jeff Fager, the chairman of CBS News and the program’s executive producer, he would “always have the ability to speak his mind on ‘60 Minutes’ when the urge hits him.”

Rooney must make his peace with God. Not me. His passing simply means a detestable man is no longer with us. That’s a good thing. I wonder who his replacement will be.

Without Patton Bradley’s alleged battle plan would have been nothing more than squiggles on a map.

It is a fact that the battles Bradley commanded resulted in more dead and wounded American soldiers (percapita) then the battles Patton commanded.

I can understand ilk like Rooney not liking Patton. But to say he was over rated is ignorent. What the hell did Rooney know about generalling anyway? For people like Rooney likable average people are always preferable to unlikable superior people. Feelings, you know?

“Now, an army is a team. It lives, eats, sleeps, fights as a team. This individuality stuff is a bunch of crap. The bilious bastards who wrote that stuff about individuality for the Saturday Evening Post, don’t know anything more about real battle than they do about fornicating.”

Yep, touchy, feely feelings. Patton was the general the Germans feared the most.
Touchy, feely doesn’t win wars and save lives.

He was funny back when ‘60 minutes’ was good. ‘60 Minutes’ now is 59 minutes 59.9 seconds to long. In the old days he had some funny comments about ladies dresses, lunches and the New york Boat Show, but recently.. he was mean and I’d rather watch The Simpsons than ‘60 Minutes to long’. (Homer is smarter than the panel of 60 minutes!!)
