As routine maintenance someone on the local Courant forum said he cut down some diseased trees on his property (I believe in W. Hartford) and he got two nasty-gram letters about ‘save the trees’ from two of his neighbors about it. Brave libbies, won’t even talk about it face-to-face.
I can believe that. Even 20 years ago, driving west on Farmington Ave I could feel the bad vibes of liberalism.
I still have no power and have been on generator since 5PM Sat., but just got cable back a few days ago and noticed Malloy’s disappearing act.
He is a coward and makes it all about himself. I haven’t hear him acknowledge that other states such as MA, NY and ME experienced similar conditions and restoration times.
Reality to Mallethead Malloy: If you can do better rewiring the grid in Connecticut, have at it. By the way, does your life insurance policy include suicide by electrocution?
And now they have to spend more time making Gov. Malloy happy, instead of restoring power. Great work Gov.!

Hope you get your power soon. We were lucky not to lose it this time, though we had flush water, a full rack of wood, and enough candles to last for more than a month.
I am a New Englander enjoying the first full day of power in a week. I agree with you.
I was getting so angry at the pols for whipping up a frenzy over this. I tried over and over to explain how devastating the damage was to folks who were bitching. Just from my own house, back to the main trunk, about a mile away the lines were down in eight places and the roads were blocked with downed trees.
It took the crews working 18 hour days, three days to just get in to cut the trees off the lines, and then they could start retiring.
To have the Govenor say they need to work harder just tells me he is an idiot who has no clue what he is talking about. The last thing you want are linemen working 20 hours in a row. You will just end up with dead linemen.
I live in one of “those” towns in Western MA. You are right, they would be howling if a truck came down the street trimming the trees as they should have been doing.
well the boys from VA came down the street the other day and gave all of the trees a buzz cut. Thru won’t need to trim again for three years. It was kind of funny; as if WMECO was tell those rich bastards:”I’ll trim your trees now....and you will beg us to get it done faster so we can get the heat on.”
And to the person that saiid it was five degrees outside, you are really exaggerating. The inside of my house never got below 50 degrees. Cold? Yes. Unlivable? Not even close.
i bought a diesel generator this year i use coal as my main heat source but i have a fuel oil furnace till it gets/stays cold enough for the coal stove to be on
i got a diesel cause if the power goes out, it'll prolly be out at the gas stations too... i always have at least 250 gals of fuel on hand for the furnace so that hopefully will last till the electricity comes back on

I used to work in Amherst; I know what you mean about earthy-crunchies there.
Well it’s pretty apparent that everyone thinks their crisis is worse than someone else’s. What we could probably all agree on is that most people are not prepared to handle extremes of any kind for more than a day or two. And we all know we, unfortunately, cannot count on any government agency for rapid, organized and effective response and assistance. Even though a foot or two of snow would cause a whole new set of problems for most Texans, at least it would eliminate our current major problem of drought and devistating fires. Given our present situation it might even be a crisis that we would welcome, at least for a while.
I’m in the process of having electricians give us quotes for propane generators. A big tank and I wouldn’t have to worry about week-long outages. We have a wood stove, but am thinking of getting a secondary pellet stove since the pellets are easier to handle, and can be setup with a thermostat for more even heat compared to the wood stove. My concern with them is their reliance on electricity, but with a 10-14kW gennie and a big tank, that is not an obstacle anymore.

Malloy proved he was an idiot when he ordered all “non-essential” state workers to report to work the Monday after the storm.
He forgot that most gas stations were not operational. That led to mile long gas lines that clogged up streets (in addition to downed power lines and trees).
On the day when the state needed the roads clear the governor added to the mess.
The utility executives really drew the short straw on this one. Most of its shareholders live in the heavily affected suburbs.
Hope they have their resumes updated.
P.S. One final insult to end this mess—CL & P’s web page announced “1%” outages on Tuesday once the outage rate dropped to 1.9999999999%.
The governor stole votes to get elected.
The utility lies with statistics to make false claims.
They and the governor deserve each other.
