Ohio Voters Look Set To Dump Republicans' Anti-Union Law The balloting will be closely watched in a state that could be pivotal in the 2012 presidential election.
By Paul West November 5, 2011 Reporting from Hanoverton, Ohio— An aggressive Republican drive to weaken the labor rights of government workers appears to have crested, at least in Ohio, where voters are expected to throw out a far-reaching anti-union law this week.
The referendum over collective bargaining for public employees, potentially the most important contest in off-year elections around the nation, is being closely watched for clues about shifting voter trends in a state expected to play its usual outsized role in next year's presidential contest.
Barely seven months ago, newly elected Gov. John Kasich joined other Republican governors, including Wisconsin's Scott Walker, in defying angry street demonstrations to push through a measure designed to curb the power of public-employee unions.

The only reason that I can think of is representation in case an officer is accused of something. I consider that to be a legitimate reason.
If you do a Google search on - voting ohio issue 2 - there are three paid ads at the top of the page. All three are to vote no on issue 2. One of the ads is a link that goes to: oh.barackobama.com/no-on-issue-2
I know two votes of yes in this house.I so far have heard no one except those who are far left want to dump it that and all of the public union members but I repeat myself...
Then you must not have seen much. In virtually every poll Issue 2 is not just losing badly, it's losing by as much as 25 points. The unions have sunk tens of millions of dollars and run one of the most deceptive ad campaigns in history. It is very difficult to overcome this much of a cash disadvantage. Realistically, it looks to me like Kasich is going to lose this one by around 5-10 points. I hope to heck I'm wrong, but I don't think so. If there is any good news that comes from it is we've forced the unions to waste a crapload of money they'd otherwise have sunk into the 2012 elections.
I’m not in Ohio, but I think the media folks may well be in for a suprise this week.
This is a money issue for the voters, and I can’t see the frugal side of the issue losing, particularly by the margins that these polls are suggesting it will be.
Austerity is pretty popular with the general public, and not just conservatives.
Ohio unions are doing what the CA unions did which was to carpet bomb Arnold’s anti-union initiatives with a blanket of ads that went down in flames. Ohio’s Kasich needs to go on the offensive.
If Ohio goes this way, there was be a lot of businesses headed for Texas.
On this issue, with the way it has been mishandled by our side, you couldn’t be more wrong.
Kasich's problem is that he has a mouth/brain disconnect much like Joe Biden.
Kasich is half the reason we're going to lose on Tuesday.
An example:
States that want to embrace the destructiveness of Unions and big government = HUGE, billion dollar opportunities for other states who disdain the same.
Why can’t they see this PLAIN AS DAY truth?
Most people don’t read newspapers or tune into FOX. We have a brainwashed electorate that every marketing agent will tell you is that people can be sold anything if the packaging is right. This is what the unions are doing in Ohio and the Walker recall in Wisconsin.
I don’t know about Kasich, but the fact is that the unions are making a big play for Republican votes. The unions know that the environmental greens have lost control and that if they want jobs, they are going to have to woo the Republicans. The coal lobby still hates the natural gas/petroleum industry, but they hate the Greens more.
There is a big struggle going on within the Democrat Party, unions vs the greens. The unions will go side with whomever makes the best offer.
In WA state, the GOP is siding with the union, on such things as WEA health care and SEIU contracts, as well as the Democrat crony capitalist projects that are designed to funnel money to the Democrat special interests, who turn around and donate the money back to the Democrat Party.
I don't know why they can't make things simple. I used to work as a consultant at a state agency several years ago. One of my buddies who's worked for the state for 20 years told me if issue 2 passes, his seniority will mean nothing and Ohio will eliminate workers based on salaries.
Seems to me that's a little more than just making them pay for their own health insurance.
But I still say screw the unions.
The greens are a big fat zero here in Ohio. A total non-existent factor. “Green” here means having a gas grill vs charcoal.
