When Perry turned Republican, he left some helpful Democrats behind
Dallas Morning News ^ | November 5, 2011 | Scott K. Parks

Democrats had ruled the state Agriculture Department for a hundred years. Perry immediately ejected Hightower loyalists and Democratic operatives from the agency. He pledged to cut the department’s staff by 20 percent and scale down the number of regional offices around the state.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry talked with a friend
in September 1991 while visiting a ranch outside Austin.

After Rick Perry switched from Democrat to Republican in 1989, he set out to become, in the words of his mentor Phil Gramm, more Catholic than the pope.

During the next 22 years, as he rose to the top of Austin’s power grid, Perry not only left his Democrat friends behind — he helped destroy them politically. And Texas evolved into a redder-than-red state.

Perry and the GOP took down U.S. Rep. Charlie Stenholm, Texas House Speaker Pete Laney , Texas Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower , Texas Comptroller John Sharp and many other Democrats...

Perry has portrayed his move as a matter of principle, while those Democrats, and others, say it was the result of political ambition. Expressing grudging admiration, Stenholm said, “Rick has become a master politician.”

Stenholm and Perry grew up where pump jacks, cattle and rows of cotton exist side by side on the plains of rural West Texas. Stenholm, a conservative “blue dog” Democrat, was already in Congress when he helped recruit a 33-year-old Perry to run for state representative in 1984.

....After graduating from Texas A&M in 1972, Perry spent six years as an Air Force pilot and then returned to Haskell County in 1977 to work the farm and ranch with his dad. He had gotten a taste for politics after joining the American Agriculture Movement, which brought the problems of family farmers and ranchers to public attention...........

I wouldn’t call it bizarre....

Amil Imani: Governor Perry's Islam Connection Being a lifelong critic of Islam, red flags popped up in my head at Perry's purported cozy relationship with Islam and prompted me to look very closely at the governor's record on this particular issue and at this specific time.

“BTW: Do you know Gov. Perry’s position on that (gay marriage)? “

I know what PERRY SAID, before he was corrected by his handlers. He said he was fine with New York legalizing gay marriage, but he didn’t support it in Texas.

A nice 10th Amendment answer, except for that little “Full Faith and Credit” clause in the Constitution. Which is why his handlers had to get him to ‘clarify’ his position. He was clueless.

http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/08/flashback-rick-perry-supports-criminalizing-gay-sex";

You forgot to mention that one of the first things that Perry did as governor was sign a GAY-FRIENDLY so-called ‘Hate-Crimes’ bill. It was so over the top that even Bush-43 kept vetoing it...and nearly lost the 2000 election over it (that was the James Byrd chain dragging advertisement).

Thanks to Perry-—Sharia law has gained a solid foothold in the US. Sharia Law Courts are a part of the Texas justice system. At leat one triumphal mosque has been built in Texas-—more to come, for sure.

Ricky manages to stay in tha 2012 race despite dismal polls and amateurish debate performances b/c his Islamic friends (and his amigos in Mexico) are hellbent on putting Perry in the WH——TO ADVANCE THEIR SUPER SECRET FOREIGN AGENDAS on the backs of US taxpayers.

Well, green energy will only become mandated if the scam known as AGW can be sold to the public and things like cap and trade forced into law. No one has taken a stronger stand against AGW than Perry, and he hasn’t beat around the bush when discussing the issue. He has openly mocked the entire fraud.

“You’re saying Perry is pro-gay marriage?”

I don’t think so, see Post 124.

But I am saying Perry is to the left of Bush-43 on that subject.

He was for it before he was against it, he is algore’s friend.

He's not Al Gore's friend. And Perry is one of the strongest anti-regulation, anti-warming spokesmen out there.

Who is your candidate?

He certainly wasn’t on that issue...unless I’m forgetting something.

When it comes to your perry spin I not believe you and the polls say I am correct. Now answer the question, how long does the amnesty/visa last. What is the term limit, when does perry make the illegals return home. How do you know who perry has on his hand cranked speed dial.

“What is the term limit, when does perry make the illegals return home.”

Good question...and what will he do to get them to return home...particularly after he’s let them establish ruts here?

I don’t expect an answer.

Hate to break up your little fun-fest but the question you ask must be decided by Congress. Rick Perry will champion sealing the border (and as commander in chief he WILL do it) and no amnesty.
