TAIPEI — The crew of a Taiwanese fishing vessel fought against armed Somali pirates to retake their ship after it was hijacked off East Africa, Taiwan authorities said Sunday.

The 290-tonne Chin Yi Wen with a crew of 28, including nine Chinese, eight Filipinos, six Indonesians and five Vietnamese, had been out of contact since Friday, the foreign ministry said.

But the crew managed to overwhelm the six armed pirates and retake control of their ship.

...

The Somali pirates fell into the sea, Tsay said, quoting the fishing boat owner, adding that details of the saga and the fate of the six pirates were not immediately clear.

The pirates fell into the sea. Oh, golly, we didn’t mean to do that!

Well, if Obama can do it with bin Ladin, then I guess fishermen can do it to Somali pirates.

Where’s the evidence?

Who really cares what happened to the pirates, as long as they didn’t make it to shore safely its all good.

“The Somali pirates fell into the sea...”

Poetical. It’s like something out of Kipling!

Someone has figured out how to handle the situation.

How do Russians unofficially handle this kind of thing after some Wodka, plenty of ammo, and plenty of free-time in the sunshine at sea?

Do NOT expect a fair fight or ANY decorum or restraint.

Do they use the Phalanx on them? Why, yesss...!

A great, raucous time!

eight Filipinos

Don't know the circumstances, but a friend of mine who was a WWII vet told me about working with the "Huks" while stationed in the Philippines. They would slither out of camp at night with a knife between their teeth and come back the next morning with "Japanese ears" as a testament to their evening's work. They would cut the throat of one man in the foxhole and take his ear. The next morning the rest of those in the foxhole would realize they could have been like him. It was devastating to their morale.

They did the same thing to Jap soldiers who were occupying the U S Army’s barracks at Fort Stotsenberg (Later Clark Air Base). Jap was terrified.

Any way we could hire the Taiwanese navy to take out the rest of the Squatomalian pirates on jihad?
