I spoke with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) by phone a short time ago after the details of Mitt Romneys spending and entitlement reform plan were released. It is fair to say that the often optimistic and cheery Ryan was downright effusive about the contents of the plan.
Ryan told me, Look at what he put out! This is a great development. It shows that the elusive adult conversation is taking place, but all on one side. He ticked off the proposals including block-granting, cutting the federal workforce and entitlement reform. He said, This tracks perfectly with the House budget. He was careful not to forget the other GOP candidates, adding that Romney and others are serious about real fiscal reform.

We need to reform entitlements. Until we do, we have no hope of bringing federal spending under control.
folks go to washington d.c. and there the stockholm syndrome gradually takes over their thinking.
He is now! :)
Paul Ryan might be accepting the fact that it might be Mitt, but is counting on a strong hand in Congress to keep him in check.
I think that was the point of the Wall Street Journal “Unsinkable Mitt Romney” article a few weeks ago.
He also had nice things to say about Cains 9-9-9 plan. Maybe he just follows Reagan’s recommendation not to attack fellow Republicans.
Again, Rubin is in the tank for Mitt. we need to have a Helen Thomas rule for her...everytime you post something by Rubin, you need to post her pic..no way she’s a conservative..conservative women are HOT
Et tu Paul?
He likes the plan because it resembles his own, That does not mean he is endorsing Mitt. One can acknowledge that a particular plan put forward by a candidate is a good one and still realize that the candidate has a history of being “flexible”. to put it mildly.
Not ANOTHER Jennifer Rubin post!
Anyway,to your question, I would not call him that. He’s just a squishy quasi-conservative. Just being true to the Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy wing of the party.
Who the hell is Jennifer Rubin? She sounds like Composted David Brooks.
Ryan was the Bush/beltway republican’s choice for a while. Yeah he’s one of Them. RINO is probably too strong. But he’s definitely one of Them.
To which McCarthy are you refering?
Perhaps, Ryan has eyes for the VP slot. Perhaps he hasn’t read the plan and even if he has, we can rest assured that Mittens will give the cost saving part of the plan the same degree of attention the Community Organizer In Charge has given to cost cutting.
No question where you stand, Jim!
No Paul Ryan is not a RINO but his budget plan is not that hot. Newt got in all kinds of doo doo for dissing it but frankly I feel the same way about it. So Ryan is your basic country club republican under Boehner’s wing trying to work his way up to Speaker or whatever. Most of the time he will do the right thing. He will never be a real rabble rouser and he is not going to restore the constitutional republic. But he’s a good patriotic american and not as bad as a lot of them.
Notice something odd, Washington Post House Conservative Rubin is more then willing to trash talk everyone on our side but she always puffs up Romney.
I suspect Ryan maybe has a different take on the conversation.
