Herman Cain: I was joking in column calling on Tiger Woods to run for president
The Daily Caller ^ | October 16, 2011 | Alex Pappas

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain says he wasn’t being serious when he penned a column in 2006 calling on Republicans to groom golfer Tiger Woods to run for president.

In an interview with The Daily Caller on Sunday, Cain said, “That was a joke. That was a joke, okay. That was a joke. Americans got to learn how to have a sense of humor.”

Free Republic: Transcript ........"Tiger's success on the golf course, which will translate to success in the White House, is a product of his character, discipline and leadership by example. Tiger has one objective when he steps up to the first tee – win. The Republicans desperately need a candidate who will not seek personal legacies through political victories that compromise conservative ideology and increase the scope of federal government. Tiger's legacy is already set.

......If the Democrats maintain control of Congress and the presidency through 2016, the big issues of restructuring Social Security, replacing the tax code and instilling free market forces in the health care system will still not be fixed. If the Republican Party regains the majority in Congress and retains the presidency, there is no guarantee that they will have the courage to make bold changes. Only an outsider will possess the leadership and the conviction to tackle the big issues without regard for the polls, media spin or inane promises of bipartisanship.

Tiger Woods could be an inspiring figure for the country, the likes of which we have not seen since Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ronald Reagan. Tiger's late father Earl Woods said in 1996 that the then-young golfer "will do more than any other man in history to change the course of humanity." The elder Woods added, "I made him a promise. 'You'll never run into another person as mentally tough as you.' He hasn't. And he won't."

The Republican presidential candidate in 2016 must not come from inside the Beltway. He must come from inside the fairway, for all of us."

“Information counteracts fear-based rhetoric, and compelling facts counteract negative messages.” Herman Cain’s book: “They Think You’re Stupid”

[excerpt] The current estate tax does not merely “tax the rich” as the Democratic Party has argued for years. It causes farmers to have to sell the farm to try to save the farm and unfairly diminishes the ability to pass first-generation success on to the next generation in a family. A lifetime of hard work and risk-taking should not go to the government, but to one’s family.

Another example is restructuring Social Security versus putting another band-aid on the system. When I addressed a group of African-American ministers in Fitzgerald, Georgia, I stated, “The Social Security structure is bad for everybody, but it is worse for Black people.” I explained that because of the average life expectancy for Black men—sixty-eight years, versus seventy-five years for Whites—Blacks can expect on average only a few years of low benefits from the Social Security system

The current Social Security structure is broken and has been for decades, and it is headed for certain bankruptcy. Social Security must be totally restructured. It does not make sense to pay into a broken structure for more than forty years only to receive minimal benefits for four or five years. For too long though, Blacks and millions of others have been told that Republicans want to rob their Social Security benefits and give the money to the rich in the form of tax cuts. Of course, this deceptive rhetoric could not be farther from the truth. [end excerpt]

"FED UP!" -- by Rick Perry [forward by NEWT GINGRICH]

Rick Perry's book "almost came too late"

"I wish this book had never needed to be written.

It almost came too late.

America is recklessly accelerating toward economic disaster. Fed Up! may be the last warning sign to the danger that lies ahead.

Rick Perry, Texas governor for the past decade, is uniquely qualified to offer a firsthand perspective on why the United States—the most successful civilization in human history—is being threatened with economic collapse.

First Principles

Faith, freedom, and free enterprise are the pillars of a strong, safe, prosperous society. Rick knows that when these principles are protected, America succeeds, and when they are undermined, America fails. But the Left has a different belief. The Left believes that most people are not capable of pursuing happiness and that a strong centralized government is best able to provide for them. While claiming compassion for humanity, the Left's policies are destructive to the human beings subject to them—as we have had to learn painfully again and again.

The Left's self-serving solution to every crisis, economic or otherwise, and many of their own doing, is always the same: inflict higher taxes on Americans to create more government programs with more rules and regulations that result in less freedom, less innovation, less safety, and less prosperity.

The problem with the Left’s one solution, as Rick forcefully explains in the pages that follow, is that it doesn't work. It's never worked, and it never will work. The record shows it.

But what the record also shows is that when power and freedom are returned to the people, when people are rewarded for work, and when government holds the line on spending, individuals and opportunity thrive. We have seen that result most spectacularly recently in Texas, and in the mid-1990s with the Contract with America Congress, when I served as Speaker of the House.

........."Running for President of the United States is an extraordinary experience. New profound friendships are unquestionably the greatest reward. They will last a lifetime. And there were moments of laughter, such as when Ann got up from a collapsed stage in Dubuque Iowa, dusted herself off and later ad-libbed, “Well, I fell on dubutt in Dubuque.” There were times of exhilaration. Winning the Michigan primary, the state where I was raised and where my dad had served three terms as Governor was one of them. Then there were the inevitable ‘lessons learned’. My dad, George Romney, use to say of his 1968 presidential campaign that it was like a mini-skirt: short and revealing. Mine was a little longer, but just as revealing.

I’ve run for office three times, losing twice and winning once. Each time when the campaign was over I felt I hadn’t done an adequate job communicating all that I intended to say. Some of that is because debate answers are limited to 60 seconds, ads are 30 seconds, and lengthy position papers are rarely read at all. This book gives me a chance to say more than I did during my campaign.

That being said, my interest in writing the book goes back well before my political life. My career in the private sector exposed me to developments abroad, and conditions at home, that were deeply troubling. At the same time, I saw that most of us were not aware of the consequences of blithely continuing along our current course. We’ve become so accustom to the benefits of America’s greatness that we cannot imagine any significant disruption of what we have known."........... Source

Liberty Defined " In Liberty Defined, congressman and #1 New York Times bestselling author Ron Paul returns with his most provocative, comprehensive, and compelling arguments for personal freedom to date.

The term "Liberty" is so commonly used in our country that it has become a mere cliché. But do we know what it means? What it promises? How it factors into our daily lives? And most importantly, can we recognize tyranny when it is sold to us disguised as a form of liberty.

Dr. Paul writes that to believe in liberty is not to believe in any particular social and economic outcome. It is to trust in the spontaneous order that emerges when the state does not intervene in human volition and human cooperation. It permits people to work out their problems for themselves, build lives for themselves, take risks and accept responsibility for the results, and make their own decisions. It is the seed of America.

This is a comprehensive guide to Dr. Paul's position on fifty of the most important issues of our times, from Abortion to Zionism. Accessible, easy to digest, and fearless in its discussion of controversial topics, Liberty Defined sheds new light on a word that is losing its shape."

"According to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, America currently faces five threats that could undermine, if not eliminate, the United States if immediate steps are not taken to correct them. The threats as he sees them are Islamic terrorists and rogue dictatorships armed with nuclear or biological weapons; the removal of God from American public life; a loss of patriotism and sense of America's history; a decline in economic supremacy because of poor science and math education; and the increasing budgetary burden of Social Security and Medicare. To tackle these problems, Gingrich offers his "21st Century Contract with America," which he outlines in great detail in this bold and thought-provoking book.".......... Source

"Among politicians of national stature today, there is perhaps none more respected as a principled conservative than Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA). In It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good, his first book, Santorum articulates the humane vision that he believes must inform public policy if it is to be effective and just. An appreciation for the civic bonds that unite a community lies at the heart of genuine conservatism. Moreover, Senator Santorum demonstrates how such an approach to political, social, and economic problems offers the most promise for those on the margin of life: the poor, the vulnerable, and minorities who have often been excluded from opportunity in America. Santorum argues that conservative statesmanship is animated by a sense of stewardship for an inheritance. But what do we inherit as Americans? And how can we be good stewards of that inheritance? Building on Robert Putnam's discussion of social capital, the habits of association and trust that are the preconditions of any decent society, Santorum assesses how well, in the past generation, Americans have cared for the fabric of society. He explores in detail various dimensions of social and cultural connection that are the foundation of the common good. And he presents innovative policy proposals for the renewal of American society at all levels. Throughout his book, Santorum emphasizes the central role of the family in achieving the common good in contradistinction to the metaphorical village of the federal government"............. Source

"Michele Bachmann is one of the most compelling leaders in America. But despite all the magazine covers and cable television stories, most people don’t know who she really is, where she comes from, or what she believes. So she decided to tell her own story and let the reader decide.

As you’ll learn in this fascinating memoir, Bachmann wasn’t the type of kid who started dreaming about the White House in elementary school. She grew up in Iowa and Minnesota as a typical midwestern girl, grounded by her family and her faith. She was raised to believe in the American dream: that anyone could succeed if they worked hard and took advantage of this country’s boundless opportunities.

She followed her dreams to college and law school, pursued a career as a federal tax attorney, started a successful business with her loving husband, raised five great kids and (over time) twenty-three foster children. By her early forties she was very happy as a full-time mom and homemaker and was a leading education reform advocate in Minnesota.

Then she became what she calls “an accidental politician.”...... Source

But then I see that Ron Paul has written 9 books. So maybe he is the smartest but he’s a little unbalanced.

Alas ! They are all human, I guess.

"But we are fed up with being over-taxed and over-regulated. We are tired of being told how much salt to put on our food, what kind of cars we can drive, what kinds of guns we can own, what kind of prayers we are allowed to say and where we can say them, what we are allowed to do to elect political candidates, what kind of energy we can use, what doctor we can see. What kind of nation are we becoming? I fear it's the very kind the Colonists fought against.

But perhaps most of all, we are fed up because deep down we know how great America has always been, how many great things the people do in spite of their government, and how great the nation can be in the future if government will just get out of the way.

Our fight is clear. We must step up and retake the reins of our government from a Washington establishment that has abused our trust. We must empower states to fight for our beliefs, elect only leaders who are on our team, set out to remind our fellow Americans why liberty is guaranteed in the Constitution, and take concrete steps to take back our country. The American people have never sat idle when liberty's trumpet sounds the call to battle-and today that battle is for the soul of America." -- [excerpt] Rick Perry: "Fed Up!"

Wifey,

The dishes are done, the beds have been made, the floors are scrubbed, and now you are busy posting with multiple links, where do you find the time?

This group of links is one of your best efforts of presenting your candidate {and I'll not be derogatory and refer to him in my normal manner} and while I disagree with your choice, your efforts are applauded by me.

Most regular posters know that I'm a Herminator and usually I'm very hard on you and your posts.

One of our local conservative talk show pundits, Rose, of the morning "Quinn and Rose" flew to Houston last Friday to be able to attend the Texas debate on Saturday night with Newt and Herman.

It was a great 90 minutes, and I'm happy to be able to say that your guy didn't say one embarrassing thing or make one vacuous statement.

Herman was very good but no one can beat Newt in a one on one 90 minute debate,

If the next President was going to be selected strictly on debate performance, Newt would be measuring for the new drapes.

I’ve done 2 loads of laundry this morning - folded and put away. I’m waiting a bit ‘til the grocery store has had time to put out fresh produce before I head out.

But first I will swing by and get the oil changed in my car.

I do admire your fervor and diligent support of Gov. Perry. He is not my first choice, not even my second, but I will support him if he is the Republican nominee.

Gov. Perry is blessed to have supporters of your caliber.
