Road Trip: Naval Base San Diego, California

020930-N-7265L-001

Naval Base San Diego is the largest base of the United States Navy on the west coast of the United States, in San Diego, California. Naval Base San Diego is the principal homeport of the Pacific Fleet, consisting of 60 ships and an additional 50 tenant commands. The base is comprised of 14 piers stretched over 977 acres of land and 326 acres of water. The total on base population is 35,000 military personnel and 7,000 civilians.

A thoroughly modern, state-of-the-art naval facility, Naval Base San Diego is now homeport to approximately 50 ships, including 37 U.S. Navy ships, two U.S. Coast Guard cutters and various ships of the Military Sealift Command, as well as research and auxiliary vessels. Now, the base welcomes the Navy’s newest and most advanced 21st century fleet platforms known as Littoral Combat Ships.

Ashore, Naval Base San Diego is also home to approximately 100 separate tenant commands and other Navy support facilities, each having specific and specialized fleet support missions.

Naval Base San Diego today is a city within a city, providing the same services as any metropolitan district, not just to its inhabitants – the Sailors and other personnel who call the base its workplace or home – but the pier-side needs of the ships as well.

Direct services include power, water and steam; hard and wireless communication lines, repair and training facilities. Support services includes less direct and indirect fleet support: waterfront operations, force protection (security), supply, Navy Exchange and Commissary shopping centers, bachelor quarters, food services, and public affairs.

Other services also supported are administration, transient personnel administration fiscal management, equal employment opportunity, civil engineering, family services, recreation on the base and near various military family housing areas, medical and dental care, religious services, transportation, utilities, legal support, counseling and assistance, facility maintenance, fire protection, educational services, and child care for more than 300 children daily at the base Child Development Center.

Sounds like a good plan for Fredd’s barking issue.

Well I hope your home safely by now.

How much snow have you gotten?

A good day?

I had to turm on the heaters here today already....a lady at the store was asking where the firelogs were.

In AZland when it gets highs in the 60’s it time to stoke a fire! LOL

Home safe and sound....roads were plowed down to the shiny. I just took my time and let those who wished go around me.

Sunday morning woke up to a foot, and by the time I left for work, maybe another 6 to 8” or more. I will have to watch the news tonight.

Weatherunderground says 50% chance of snow tonight and Wednesday, 70% Thursday. We will see.

My morning saw me get nothing done except answering questions. A couple folks said I paid wrong, but....they were wrong. Some people need work on their accusations....maybe not say “you did this wrong”, “change this”, “you didn’t pay me the right rate”. Some will never learn. d:o)

But my afternoon was really good and I am well set up for tomorrow.

Hope your commute was uneventful. Do you have a good assistant now?

At this very moment it is 19 and going down.

Sounds like a goodly amount for this early in the season, isn’t it?

We had a nice little rain just now. Sounds like it might be over
though...and much soo soon. It was nice while it lasted.

Did you get lauren’s rain from earlier?

No matter where it came from, glad you got rain.

We don’t really have any “averages”, but it was a lot of snow for the first of the season. I’m glad we had Sunday to clean up the first foot.
