It’s a long hike from the mud-caked tents of Dewey Square to the polished wood and stained glass of Harvard University’s Memorial Hall, but on Tuesday, Occupy Boston came to campus.

And they brought their Occupy-style call-and-response.

“Oh my god, this is a lot of people,” organizer Rachel Sandalow-Ash said. “Oh my god, this is a lot of people,” the group repeated. “This is very exciting.” “This is very exciting.”

About 50 students and Occupy supporters walked out of the introductory economics class taught by professor Gregory Mankiw, a conservative economist who serves as an advisor to presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors under President George W. Bush.

“This course will influence Harvard graduates.” “This course will influence Harvard graduates.”

“Harvard students have been complicit,” “Harvard students have been complicit,” “Have aided,” “Have aided,” “Many of the worst injustices in recent years.” “Many of the worst injustices in recent years.”

“Harvard students will not do that anymore.” “Harvard students will not do that anymore.”

The bulk of the protesters’ classmates stuck around to hear Mankiw’s lecture, which happened to be on the subject of income inequality — an irony the economist noted on his widely-read blog. “I am sorry the protesters will miss it,” he wrote.

Harvard freshmen and walkout organizers Sandalow-Ash and Gabriel Bayard said Mankiw teaches economics with a conservative bent.

OWSers hate capitalism.

Now they want a purge of Harvard. The little Stalinists are getting on with the program.

Leave it to the Occupy Harvard group to miss the mark by about 26 billion, that’s the size of Harvard’s endowment - $26 Billion. How about that for a 1%.

FYI WBUR is NPR in Boston.
Harvard could use a good purge and is chock full of little Stalinists, old and young.

It’s a 700 student intro-to-intro (two-digit) lecture, the largest at Harvard. I’m surprised that anyone would notice 50 missing students, never mind it making the national news for a couple of weeks.

Mankiw is an interesting cat from what I read in his blog.

There's a great comment to one of his articles, pointing out that the Harvard students ARE the 1%. Someone replies that most of the students are not wealthy and are there on scholarship.

But that misses the point so NVA takes it from there: in terms of the "lottery" of college placement, they ARE the elite, the privileged, the grabbers of the brass ring, the top of the 1%. But wait, the wail might go, "we earned our way to Harvard with very hard work to get good grades." Ah, says I, so grades are measure of your hard work? "Yes, exactly." Oh, says I, sort of how high wages are measure of ... and heads start exploding

These people are running your country.

What do you expect from the state about to elect Elizabeth Warren?

Now pay your taxes and have a nice day. :)

What do you want to bet the 50 students who left the class signed up for it KNOWING they were going to do just what they did?

There is never anything spontaneous about anything the left does. All of it is carefully planned and coordinated with the liberal media so it will have maximum affect on a gullible public

Well-stated and thought-provoking. Thanks, 101voodoo. Worth a BUMP!
