Penn State abuse scandal engulfing revered Paterno
Last Updated: 21 minutes ago

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Every Tuesday during the fall, Joe Paterno ambles into the media room at Beaver Stadium, settles into his seat and holds court.

The octogenarian coach usually doles out some one-liners along with the injury updates.

This Tuesday's press conference isn't likely to resemble any other in Paterno's 46-year tenure at Penn State.

Paterno will be asked about what he knew and when about his former defensive coordinator and one-time heir apparent Jerry Sandusky, who was indicted on charges of sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years.

Authorities have said that Paterno, who testified in the grand jury proceedings that led to the charges, is not a target of the investigation. But the state police commissioner has chastised him and other school officials for not doing enough to try to stop the suspected abuse.

from the article...

“The school issued a statement Monday night reminding media that the main focus of this week’s press conference was Saturday’s Senior Day game with Nebraska.”

They sure are tone-deaf aren’t they?

Sandusky was caught by a Graduate Assistant (a former football player) with Victim 2 in the shower. Why didn't he put a shoulder into the guy?

Where was Mrs Sandusky? Why did she allow “sleep overs”?

How many flags do people need?

Paterno can be very ‘short’ with reporters when he’s asked a question he doesn’t like. PSU has released a statement that this press conference will be focused solely on this week’s game versus Nebraska. That’s not going to wash. Paterno had better begin with a prepared statement on the Sandusky-scandal or things will get ugly fast. Paterno’s weekly call-in radio program is impossible to listen to because of his short fuse.

When asked football questions that's fine.

But when you find out in 2002 that a Graduate Assistant has seen your Assistant Coach diddling a boy in the shower and you do nothing "no comment" is a little weak.

This is bizarre:

The Penn State Creamery as yanked the “Sandusky Blitz” from their list of ice cream flavors. It was named for Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky

It was still listed on the creamery’s website on Sunday and described as a banana flavored ice cream with chocolate covered peanuts and a caramel swirl.

Yikes!

The DA in 1998 had Sandusky on tape admitting to a mother that he had been 'showering' with her son. They all knew for years. They all enabled him to keep raping. They all watched for years as he brought little boys into and out of the showers at odd hours. The guys that cleaned the showers watched.

The sports media is not going to let this disappear. The MSM might, although I doubt it since even my local stations were carrying coverage of this, but the sports media will not let this die. ESPN is pushing it, although they are pushing an Alabama-LSU rematch as their top story, but Sports Illustrated is letting Penn State have it with both barrels:

Yahoo Sports is reporting that Sandusky visited the football weight room multiple times last week. If that can be verified, Paterno is finished.

If Sandusky was still walking around Penn State years later, then it should have been clear to Paterno that nothing was done. It's being reported that Sandusky was using Penn State football facilities last week.

Paterno has I think 15 grandchildren. As a grandfather, he has a moral obligation to see that this puke was in jail, not still walking around freely years later.

Asst coaches, like Sandusky, spend a lot of time in close proximity with the players and other athletic staff. Practice, film, trainign room, dining halls..it's a LOT of time. I'm NOT suggesting any inappropriate contact between players and Sandusky, ( he liked them MUCH younger) but when you spend that much time with one person, for 3-4 years as a player,or in case of some staffers, decades, you get a sense, a vibe, off that person, or they observed him in close proximity with young kids many times. I suspect that a great many had an idea, an inkling, that something was wrong..and failed to say anything.

It's also very likely that Sandusky committed many acts with kids inside the Penn State facilities. The pathology f pedophiles is such that they need to have a comfort zone, a space where they feel safe, untouchable. For Sandusky, that was the Penn State athletic buildings.

Indict them, try them, and let a jury decide.

They had him on tape admitting that in 1998. The janitor that cleaned the showers testified that the had seen him in 2000.

Yes, I see your points very clearly and I agree. I was wondering if, from a legal aspect, if Paterno can escape prosecution.

IMO, it’s sad on many levels, not only for the boys that were harmed, but for the long and legendary career of Paterno. Bad way to have to go out and I don’t think even if he is cleared, he has enough time to live this down. Just sad.

After Victim #1 broke down at school (Mother's quotes). They are co-conspirators also. “They told me to go home and think about what I wanted to do, and I was not happy,” she said. “They said I needed to think about how that would impact my son if I said something like that. I went home and got [my son] and we came to [Children and Youth Services] immediately.”

The State Police commissioner seemed to think Paterno was not legally obligated, just morally obligated to take things further than reporting it to his bosses.

If it turns out that Sandusky was still using Penn State facilities on the main campus, Paterno will not survive the season. I've got a friend who went to Penn State, and he said the alumni are just going crazy over this, and they are wanting a lot of people to be fired/jailed over this and just clear out a bunch of people. They are sick over the victims that were injured, they are sick over the cloud this puts Penn State.

If it's documented that Sandusky was still around and that Paterno knew, Paterno will not only be asked to step down, but somebody could file a civil suit against Paterno. I don't know how far it would go, but if you know a child was abused and the person who did it was still walking free years later, you're on shaky ground.

Thank you for the information. I have a friend that went to Penn State and he tells me that in forums, etc. alumni are going nuts fighting about Paterno and how he should go out. He tells me it’s about 50/50 but friendships are fraying and harsh words flying about.

From his point of view, he is saddened that Paterno is involved at all.

Paterno should step down immediately for the good of all. PSU needs to clean house and if Joe would step down then they could move forward in the cleaning.

I’m quite suprised, I’ve long thought that ESPN is basically a homosexual operation after seeing every issue of their magazine being little but gay porn if going by the cover. I honestly am not out to police the actions of adults with consenting adults but what little knowledge I have of the community they have little desire to police the true psychopaths amongst themselves.

The State Police commissioner seemed to think Paterno was not legally obligated, just morally obligated to take things further than reporting it to his bosses.

It needs to be remembered that Jerry Sandusky retired somewhat early in 1999. There's that tape floating around where Sandusky admits to wrongdoing in 1998. It may just turn out that a lot of University officials knew a lot more than they are willing to admit & at a much earlier date.

IAW the appropriate sections of PA state law, it legally covers him. Does it do so morally? There is where the debate is raging...
