ADL: Talk of Bibi is 'un-Presidential'

The Anti-Defamation League has weighed in on President Obama’s once-secret talk with Nicolas Sarkozy about Benjamin Netanyahu — a conversation that the White House won’t talk about.

The French president told Obama at the G-20 that he considered Israel’s premier a liar; Obama replied, “You’re sick of him, but I have to deal with him every day.”

The ADL’s national director, Abraham Foxman, said in a statement:

“We are deeply disappointed and saddened by this decidedly un-Presidential exchange between Presidents Sarkozy and Obama. President Obama’s response to Mr. Sarkozy implies that he agrees with the French leader. In light of the revelations here, we hope that the Obama Administration will do everything it can to reassure Israel that the relationship remains on a sure footing and to reinvigorate the trust between President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu, which clearly is not what it should be. What is sad is that we now have to worry to what extent these private views inform foreign policy decisions of the U.S. and France – two singularly important players in the peace process.”

White House press secretary Jay Carney refused to talk about

No kidding! "Saddened"? What is that suppose to mean anyway? It likely means something like I relegate this to an emotional feeling rather than the fact of what he said and what it means about who he is and what he really thinks about Israel and it's leader.

The words he used should have used instead of “saddened”, “I am utterly outraged”.

Foxman needs some clarity. Maybe some therapy. Maybe Meditation. Maybe Madonna can pay for some Kabbalah? But his unabashed support for this administration just backfired. He should resign.

Obama said “I have to deal with this every day”. Deal with what? It isn’t just Bibi. There are Palestinians, other Arabs, Persians, Egyptians and others involved. Obama’s comment appears as if Obama has bought into the international leftist animus towards Israel, as if Israel is the source of all problems.

If Israel feels threatened by Iran, I dare say they have good reason. If Israel feels the Palis broke the Oslo deal, they are correct. If Israel is worried that the ‘Arab spring’ will turn into an islamists anti-Israel wet dream, I believe they are right. Since we hold ourselves out as the only country that can hold Israel’s reigns, while at the same time the Palis and Arabs are free to do as they wish, then Israel is going to bring these fears and other issues to the White House. Obama can’t have it both ways, both holding Israel back and complaining at the expression of their existential fears.
