One of the questions surrounding the sex-abuse case against Jerry Sandusky is why a former district attorney chose not to prosecute the then-Penn State assistant coach in 1998 after reports surfaced that he had inappropriate interactions with a boy.
The answer is unknowable because of an unsolved mystery: What happened to Ray Gricar, the Centre County, Pa., district attorney?
Gricar went missing in April 2005. The murky circumstances surrounding his disappearance — an abandoned car, a laptop recovered months later in a river without a hard drive, his body was never found — have spawned Web sites, television programs and conspiracy theories. More than six years later, the police still receive tips and reports of sightings.

The plot thickens. Where was Sandusky? Got an alibi for that period and location?

Can anyone tell me how this all got started? Did one of the victims come forward and that’s what got the guy arrested on Saturday? Everything I have read so far starts with him being arrested, I can’t find out how it came to be.
Yikes. This scandal is getting worse by the day.

It’s funny as I remember the case of this missing DA. And that he had never been found.
But it never occurred to me to connect Penn State and Sandusky to his disappearance.

Any ties to the mob/union with this do you think? Any gambling ring? It IS ‘PA’, after all.
There were incidents off and on for 15 years. Everyone passed the buck.
An investigation began in ernest 3 years ago and culminated with Sandusky’s arrest last weekend.
The victims have doubled in 2 days.
Is PA big union?
Penn? Yes, big union state. That’s what I’m wondering.
Sandusky was working at a high school doing stuff with the kids. One kid complained to his mom (this was in 2009) about inappropriate advances. Mom went to the school, the school went to the authorities, and they began investigating.
After 1 - 2 years, the investigation progressed enough to bring him up on charges via grand jury.
The snowball started rolling down hill from there.
I think I got it right.......
Joe PA needs to just retire now. This isn’t going away and there is no way of saving the football program(which is their biggest worry). They have much egg on their face. Everyone knew and no one called police.Should be more than Sandusky going to prison for life

Can’t we assume that someone reported it to the police at that time?
And why does Paterno have to resign because the DA refused to prosecute?

Unless Sandusky was involved in betting on games or something as well? They recovered the laptop in the river but couldn’t recover any of the data was the last I heard about it.

I think that the higher-level Penn State Football supporters would rank right up there with the mob when it came to defending anything threatening their “famiy”.

2) Joe Paterno enabled a serial homosexual child-rapist to continue to ply his "trade" at Pedo State for a decade and a half.

No. The subject of the inappropriate advances, whose mother sparked the investigation was a different child.
Nobody has yet identified the child Sandusky was seen sodomizing in the Penn State shower.
I was just responding (too succinctly, obviously) to a stupid post that suggested the "timeline" began in 2009.
But I'm glad you brought up the child who was sodomized by Sandusky in 2002. I've been watching ESPN non-stop all day, and I'm mortified by the Paterno defenders on that channel. Yes, there are a few commentators who can rightly identify with the victims, but most seem not even to care one iota about the welfare of that child.

As I said on another thread, Joe Paterno and all those involved at Pedo State can rot in hell for allowing this heinousness to continue for so long!

The pedophilia network was my first thought when the DA angle was brought up in other posts yesterday. Sandusky was organized and likely was cultivating kids to rape well before he formed the "Second Mile" organization in 1977. These sick people were linked in well before the internet. They could have everything to lose when one of their friends are caught.
My dad would have gone to Paterno’s house after kicking my ass.
This cover-up is unbelievable. It rocks the entire school. It is not going to end well at all. These children own the endowment after being subjected to this abuse.

No joke: I would have killed Sandusky right then and there.
And no jury would convict me.
I believe you and the other poster are having a misunderstanding, and you are both on the same side. The other poster was just pointing out the incident that got the current investigation started. The 1998 incident, also a victim’s mothers complaint, was the investigation led by currently missing DA Gricar. In that investigation, the police had Sandusky on tape admitting to the mother his crime. DA Gricar did not prosecute, even thou the evidence seemed solid. We will never know why for sure, we can speculate, since Gricar has disappeared from the Earth, and according to his fellow prosecutors he handled this case close to the vest. They have no idea either. As for Paterno, he is a liar and knew about all these investigations. If one of his players spit on the sidewalk, he would know from the local police. That is the way it is done in these college towns. His true character has been exposed. As of today he is still more concerned that he is coaching a football game on Saturday than with what happened to 20 and climbing victims who’s lives have been ruined for ever.
On WFAN today, host Mike Francesa stated that if this happened to Bear Bryant,Bryant would have broke Sandusky’s neck with his own hands.

As for the ex-QB, this guy has no soul. He witnesses the despicable act, makes eye contact with the perp and victim, and then walks away. For all he knew, Sandusky murdered and disposed of the kid an hour later. Then for the next nine years has frequent contact on campus and at practice with the predator like nothing happened. After all this, Sandusky must have believed he could have buggered a nine year old on the fifty yard line and no one would do anything about it.
It appears that the Catholic Church has become Satan’s playground and far too many are far too willing to play ball!

Maybe, but the DA declined to prosecute in 1998, and then didn’t disappear until 2005.

Your post is rather creepy. If I found the guy to which you refer, then he was an assistant baseball coach at a boarding school. After being a head coach for a major university. Very disturbing.
