A month ago, Herman Cain edged out Barack Obama among likely voters in Rasmussen’s poll, 43/41. Last week, after the initial allegations of sexual-harassment complaints surfaced, Cain trailed Obama by five points, 43/38. Today, after ten days of allegations and the response from the Cain campaign, Obama now beats Cain by eleven points:
Businessman Herman Cain is losing ground in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup against President Obama.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds Obama earning 48% support to Cains 37%. Eleven percent (11%) prefer some other candidate, while five percent (5%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.) …
The latest survey was conducted the night prior to and of his most recent press conference. Cain denies the newest allegations made against him, stating he doesnt even know the woman who is accusing him of suggesting sexual acts to get her job back. But 51% of voters nationwide now believe the allegations are at least somewhat likely to be serious and true. Thats up twelve points from a At the same time, two-thirds believe Cains ethics are at least as good as most politicians.
It’s not difficult to see where Cain has lost ground when looking at the crosstabs. In October, he had a six-point lead among men and only a 4-point deficit with women. Obama now ties Cain among men and leads Cain by twenty-one points among women, 52/31. That’s a huge shift, one that would exacerbate a gender-gap problem Republicans routinely face in presidential elections.
The news is worse among independents. In October, Cain had a 19-point lead, 48/29, over Obama. Today that has become a six-point deficit, 35/41. Support from self-described conservatives in this head-to-head matchup dropped eight points from 73% to 65%, and now Cain loses every income demographic in the survey.
If it appeared that Cain’s supporers were giving him the benefit of the doubt last week, this week looks as though voters have serious questions about either the allegations or Cain’s handling of the issue. The survey took place before the embarrassment of the false accusation leveled by Cain campaign manager Mark Block against Josh Kraushaar, too, which could mean that the campaign will have trouble reversing this momentum quickly.
This just makes me sad. I know it’s politics, but it makes me sad.
I guess the smear campaign is working.
But we’ve got a full year before the election.
Lots of time for all sorts of things. Including martial law, and suspending the electoral process indefinitely.
Nice horserace,
but we are in the first furlong.
Let not your heart be troubled. WE ARE ONE YEAR AWAY.
There is plenty of time for this all to become irrelevant.
Herman hired a good lawyer to refute and challenge these bimbos. The Rats know they have an issue so will have a new one to tout out every time news of the previous one dies down. Hopefully the public will get tired of this after a while and begin to look beyond the charge.
This is not an “I told you so” because I still think Cain is positioned well and I support him 100%.
But this is one of the major reasons I wanted Sarah Palin to run. She has been through 3 years of fire and all the ammo is gone.
Cain is just starting to get hit with things, and if some sticks to him, it will hurt him. Plus, every day he has to play defense is a day he can’t be pushing forward.
He will just have to weather this storm and see where he sits at the end of the day.
I’ll bank on the zero attention span of the public. As soon as the MSM chokes on this and moves on, watch those numbers quickly change.
HotAir has become one of the LEAST objective bloggers in this race. Here are all the polls taken in the last week:

Also from Rasmussen today:
2012 Florida Republican Primary
Florida Primary: Cain 30%, Romney 24%, Gingrich 19%
Gingrich is starting to look better to me. He admitted that sitting on the couch with Pelosi was “stupid”. Gingrich would eviscerate 0bama in a debate. Most important of all, Gingrich is not Romney. That is just my opinion.
It makes me enraged. I’m sick up to here with this crap. Thin air accusations can bring a candidate down? Character assassinations can derail a candidacy? What decent person in their right mind would ever want to lead?
Then this country deserves what it gets if this isn’t stopped dead in its tracks THIS election cycle.
This is temporary. The economy will be the major factor in this election.
The election IA a year away and all these baseless accusations won’t mean a thing ny the end of next month.
The law of unintended consequences will prevail and Cain will be a stronger candidate.
The left tries to smear Palin and how did that work out for them?
God is in control. Obama fears Cain, and for good reason.
If only 0bama could freeze this moment and fast forward to 1 year from now.
He can't...
So the left gives Herman Cain the Tom Robinson treatment, and we’re the racists.
The Left is doing to Herman Cain what they wrongly claimed the Right would do to Obama.
Rats have perfected the art of personal destruction. Since they believe that the ends justify the means, the use of any deceit, trickery or lie is in their playbook and encouraged.
The elections start in less than 2 months.
That makes me sad.
I’ll be voting for Herman, and no one else.
Cain is not running against Obama in 1 month. If you will look at recent polling of likely Republican voters, Cain is leading in quite a few (and by some nice margins).
I wish folks would remember that Polls do not reflect reality when spun by the media but are tools for them to SHAPE reality...How about some polls about Obamas handling of the Economy, or unemployment? Nope you wont get those until AFTER the 2012 elections...
When you can’t run on your record, OR your deeply flawed agenda, all that’s left in your tool box is personal destruction of the opponent.
And America is catching on. Thankfully.
I’m not surprised. After two weeks of relentless vilification of Cain, the state-controlled media finally got the results it wanted. They hope to scare Republicans into nominating Slick Willard. After all, the poll does show him as “electable.”
Hint: nominate the guy we prefer or else!
Cain is going to beat the pants off obama. All we gotta do is help him get through the primary.
Ah no, the Primary starts in 2 months
The charges concerned me less then his bumbling response. He knew up to ten days in advance Politico had the story and still was utterly unprepared to deal with the matter when the story broke.
I’d be interested in a breakdown of which factor cost him the more support. The charges, or how he dropped the ball.
Is there a way to find out whether this gal who was just outed yesterday really is a registered Republican (but has only donated to the DNC), and if so, when she registered as a Republican?
The media all knew the names of these women, and while the name was withheld from public scrutiny they assured us that these were extremely competent, successful, conservative/Republican, and credible people.
Now that we have a name, it has taken very little time to find out that this gal is heavy into democratic causes (including contributions to the DNC and fighting to have Elian Gonzales deported to Cuba) and in a job complaint at her next job claimed as “sexually explicit” an e-mail joke which, if the same as one that matches the description of the joke she objected to, had nothing sexual in it. IOW, hyper-hyper-sensitive and a cry-baby at work.
The public needs to see what the media has done - and why they can’t be trusted to tell an accurate story when the claims are anonymous.
Good point, what are people more interested in income or alleged affairs. Well on second thought. No, just kidding hope and pray people come to their senses. thanks
Melissa
First Bachman was not stable, then Perry was racist, whoever is next will be hit hard also.
We have got to stand and not take this crap anymore
Melissa
I am mad as hell.......
I swear, the electorate in this country makes me want to puke sometimes. I guess they're in "Thank you sir, may I have another?" mode.
Oh, and this also screams for repeal of the 19th Amendment.
Only Republican candidates. That is all the media will go after. If its a 'Rat they either ignore the allegations or actively work to discredit them (e.g., Bill Clinton).
This is just a foretaste. No matter who the 'Pub nominee is they are going to be savaged in a merciless and unprecedented manner by the media, all because they might run against The Almighty God Obama.
And a-holes like Karl Rove are piling on, with “friends” like that, who needs enemies?
I know, it makes me sick how easy it is for the press to destroy a fine Christian man. If we let them do this to us, which will essentially lead to their choosing our candidate again, then we deserve what happens to this country. I just want to cry. I really, really hope we can overcome this but it’s really hard to keep believing some days.
Cindie
Let’s let Cain get the nomination and have him go 1on1 with Barry.
And that will be the choice. I'm not at all sure Romney can beat hussein either.
This country eats the Palins and Cains; perhaps it deserves Barack Obama.
Obama is going to be re-elected. We have too many morons and slackers in this country.
They deserve him.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! I hate them with a passion!!
Bachman was done in by other candidates they out performed her, Perry, who I was enthusiastic about, stumbled over his own tongue. Of course, whoever is left will be hit hard...that’s why we really don’t want a novice and that’s what Cain is. I know I’m gonna get slimmed but he simply is not ready for prime time...he just isn’t. And that has nothing to do with these ridicules allegations.
Is that the same FOX she collects a paycheck from?
He can’t get the nomination he has to win it!!!
One thing that hasn’t changed and doesn’t appear will ever change is that we don’t really get to choose.
People candidates are going to be ignored or sandbagged before they are ever allowed to climb to the top.
Romney is next in line, they probably have an alternate in mind too. One of the reasons they were begging Christie was that they knew Romney wasn’t going to catch fire.
How they think Christie was qualified is amusing too.
Anyway, the writing is starting to be on the wall for Herman. They want him out and if he stays in things will get even worse for him. After awhile, even though people really like him, they will get tired of the turmoil.
This is why they keep it going. Already starting to happen.
Most of these people don’t even care anymore if what they say or who they drag out is totally false and phony. The elite R’s and D’s are going to circle the wagaons for the established picks.
For all of you happier than hell about this, don’t celebrate just yet. Your pick may be next.
gosh dangit
I saw freepers on here who said Governor Palin was “damaged goods” for YEARS. YEARS. I warned that they would use these tactics against other candidates. But no they didnt get it. Certain idiots thought this was just something that would happen to Governor Palin. I guess they thought this was unique to Sarah.
coward republicans deserve a hotter hell than the Democrats
Don't you understand, they create the "ammo". What would stop them from coming up with people who would swear they had trysts with Palin on those long nights when Todd was gone. You may not believe it but others might. It would even be the same players. Rove would love the chance to slime Sarah and most of the Fox elite never liked her.
No one is immune from this style of political slime. The only question is, who will cave first.
Well, since I no longer watch any media whatsoever, if no one posted these garbage polls here, I wouldn’t even know about them.
I ain’t allowing them to shape my opinion any longer or ever again.
Don’t you understand that the ammo loses it’s power? When a target hasn’t taken fire, it’s easy to see shot as being possibly fatal. But when you have been through a long series of fire, people tune out each and every shot taken.
Palin can look at a reporter who asks her about a “tryst” and say “Are you kidding me? You can do better.” and that would be the end of the story. Why? Because of all of the attacks that she has dealt with before.
I think Cain will come through this fine, but with Palin we were getting a known candidate. Cain still has people discovering who he is.
