Joe Paterno will not coach another game at Penn State, 6ABC in Philadelphia reports.
Paterno annouced earlier today that he planned to retire after this season. But the trustees appartently decided at a meeting tonight that we will not be allowed to see out the season.
PSU will formally announce the news at a 10 p.m. press conference.
President Graham Spanier's resignation will also be annouced.

And where are all the real men these days? If Vince Lombardi had witnessed something that horrific in his team's locker room, I gotta think the assistant coach would have been taken out of there in a body bag -- in fewer than five pieces, if he was lucky.
My theory is ex PSU players will slowly begin to appear as victims of Sandusky. It would NOT surprise me if McGarity was one of his victims. Can not believe after McGarity told Paterno, he got a promotion. Was McG honestly that naive to believe he earned the promotion???
Understand, the football program has built PSU to what it is and it all might be coming down.

You conveniently omit the little things like Rife's drug dealing and the federal investigation surrounding it.
JoePa: your legacy is as an enabler of serial child rape. Was it worth it? For you and the children? You sanctimonious POS...go straight to hell.
Sandusky's victims (and they are yours also) spent enough time in hell.

Which is propably why they fired him instead of letting him finish the season.
I think Paterno was more than just an enabler.
He needs to be banned from the campus.
I am saddened by this whole mess. I am equally disgusted by the fact that anyone, particularly those involved in mentoring children in athletics, has taken advantage of that position of trust by mollesting them. There is a special corner in hell reserved for the quilty party(s).
A man who has devoted his life to building young men and a storied football program should have done more. When first allerted, he should have kept the grad asst. in his office and immediately called the police to come out and speak to him, then, only after calling the authorities should he have called the University President. I’m confident that, given the same circumstances again, he would have handled it differently. However - that and a buck will buy you a soda. Nothing can undo the damage that has been inflicted upon innocent children. That much is unfortunate.
I, being a huge college football fan and former player, am sad that JoePa needs to go out in this manner. 46 years at Penn State - where he and his wife have given virtually every penny they have ever earned back to the university (donating over $4mil and then raising $14 mil to build the Paterno library) and built a legacy that will forever be unmatched. His commitment to his “Grand Experiment” allowed Penn State players to always excel in their studies while being formidable on the field of play. He wrote the book on melding athletics and academics. For that to be torn apart makes me sad for JoePa. It is a sad day for those children involved, it is a sad day for college football, but it is also a sad day for Joe and Sue Paterno. I join them in feeling a sense of loss.
The whole thing is really weird. I tried to think what the ordinary normal person would do when he saw what was happening.
I think they would have ran up to him yelling to stop and ask him what the heck he was doing. They I would take the kid and try to protect him while we got into touch with his parents.
Then I would have phoned the cops. Then maybe paterno too.
Little did he know.
The University of Chicago dropped its football team decades ago and they still get some favorable notice now and then...even if they did hire a totally unqualified adjunct to teach constitutional law some years ago because of political pressure.
No. from all the victims that have come forward, it appears Sandusky is physically attracted to kids between ten and fourteen. PSU players have fully developed bodies by the time they come to the university.
A lot of buildings on that campus bear his name...some he built with his own cash. That's going to be a sticky wicket.

I think you may have something. Why is everyone so concerned about Paterno? Why is the outrage from the media down to FR aimed at Paterno? There is a man accused of being a serial child predator, and the college administrators and head of police did nothing when they heard the allegations. So why is Paterno the object of everyone’s anger?
Necessary decision. If a leader fails to protect those entrusted to him, he should do the right thing and get out immediately, not try to dictate his own time of departure. Too arrogant.
Paterno’s name will be totally expunged from PSU campus. His statue will be melted down...in six months there will be no trace of him in Happy Valley. There will be no football program either.
Sandusky is the prime target, but Paterno McQuarry, Schultz and Spanier are also secondary targets.
There are people who really want Joe to somehow be let off the hook.
To remain in some kind of denial about the gravity of not intervening when this continued to go on.
That is not happening. Period.
Joe isn't a special target. But he is a target and he is not being let off merely because he did some good things along with this reprehensible thing.
No exemptions on this.
That's been my question all along. Perhaps he feared Paterno and Penn State would ruin his career if he went directly to the police.
Finding the list of kids who attended Sandusky's camps, and then comparing them to PSU rosters 7-8 years after should be an easy thing to do.
